What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.

Studies have shown that mutts typically live about 2 years longer than purebred dogs. Mutts are often better at dog sports, such as agility trials or frisbee, than their purebred counterparts.
