Rescue Me ID: 18-01-17-00076Deuce (male)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered

Deuce is a big, goofy boy who just wants to play and have fun! With that being said, he needs an owner who will be patient and consistent with him to help him be the very best dog he can be. He is smart, and catches on quickly. Eager to please, Deuce will be an awesome companion with just a bit of training! Deuce is about 5 years old and will need to be neutered prior to going into his new home. This energetic, black and white mixed breed is ready to run and romp with anyone who can keep up with him! He is a large dog and isn't aware of his size, so he may not be a good fit with little kids. Deuce would be great with someone who is very ... (Read More)active and will take him out on long hikes. He would probably love to be out on a farm or ranch where he could have a lot of land to roam around on. He deserves a home where he will be loved and cared for always. Come in to the shelter to meet Deuce today! If you're not looking to adopt, please share his post so we can help Deuce find his fur-ever home soon! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-15-00059Coco (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed

Coco is as sweet as can be! This brindle beauty arrived at the shelter as a stray, so her history is a mystery to us. Coco is a medium sized girl who will need to be spayed before she can go into her new home. She is probably about 2 or 3 years old. This cutie loves to play tug o' war! She enjoys running around and being with her people. She knows a few basic commands. Coco will come when called. She would do great in a home with folks who will make her a beloved and cherished family member always! We don't know how Coco is with other dogs or cats. She would probably be okay with kids who are gentle and respectful. Coco seems to be house ... (Read More)trained, but she might need some patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement to get her into the routine of her new home and surroundings. Coco might have some labrador mixed with some boxer and blended with pit bull along with who-knows-what-else. One thing is for sure: she will make an outstanding canine companion for anyone looking to add a dog to their home. Come on out to the shelter today to meet sweet Coco! (Less)

American Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Introducing Alaska! This fun loving pup is very excited to find her forever home. Alaska previously lived in a dog run with little interaction, but now is now looking for a warm bed to sleep on. She is an American Bulldog mix approximately 9 months old. She is good with other dogs and cats. Children over the age of 5 may be the best fit for her as she is energetic and may knock smaller children down. She is crate trained as well. Despite living outdoors most of her life Alaska is remarkably good in the house, she is house trained and has decent manors. She is still a puppy though, so it's important her new home will continue basic training. ... (Read More)She has been started on sit, down, stay, come, place and leash work but, will need an owner willing to keep up on that training. Alaska is a smart girl who picks up on things rather quick and easily, she is very food motivated. She would love another young doggy friend to play with. She loves stuffed toys and will play with them any chance she gets, as far as other toys go she isn't quite sure what they are, but is picking it up by watching the other dogs in her foster home. She will come fully vaccinated and spayed. If you are interested in adding Alaska to your family call Terra at 435-558-0134 or Abigail at 435-633-5614. Her adoption fee is only $150. (Less)

English Springer Spaniel Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We have had our 16 month-old dog, Pippin, since he was 8 weeks old. He is a ~50lb, neutered, house-trained, energetic Lab/Springer Spaniel mix, and is very affectionate and eager to please. He knows basic commands and several tricks, and is very trainable. However, he has a history of unpredictable behavior around other dogs (except our own, older Lab/Boxer mix) and young children. Despite our efforts to correct this behavior, he actually bit our 4yo niece on Christmas Day. He would do well in a home with older or no children, with someone willing to continue training his high energy personality.

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-10-00314Lola (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lola is an incredibly sweet but extremely hyperactive 9 year old border labby. She can't come inside our house because she's crazy energetic, knocking stuff over and causing general havoc. She has no problem living outside except that if she doesn't have access to the front door where she can happily greet her owners, she will climb/jump/dig to escape her pen. We have chickens, and she has killed several of them. We've had to keep her both penned AND chained just to keep her from destroying our flocks. She has also, while not chained, run off and pestered and possibly injured sheep from another farm. The farmer shot at her, but missed, ... (Read More)and she escaped. Basically, she's no good with farm animals. Because of this, we haven't dared sell her traditionally. Most people who have dogs that have killed farm animals have their dogs put down, and we've had people encourage us to do this. We refuse, and if we HAVE to just keep her chained and penned for the rest of her life, we're willing to do it. She's been a good friend, and an EXCELLENT running buddy. We just don't have the skill, time, or energy to provide the intensive training it would take to get her into a manageable state. She's incredibly food motivated, in case that might help someone that would consider training her. She LOVES to run. She's also a hunter--she's caught and killed several squirrels and skunks. She has an adorable smile that gets visitors a little nervous, because she bares her teeth and pants heavily when people come to see her. She has always loved any and ALL people, and has never shown even the slightest aggression towards people. That said, when she gets excited (such as when her owner gets home), she gets so hyper that she might knock over children or furniture. As a man with ADHD, I've sometimes told my wife that Lola is like a dog with ADHD. Sweet and loving, but doesn't know how to contain her excitable energy and terrible distractedness. She has begun slowing that energy some as she's been getting older. She's now 9 years old, and though we'll miss her, she's too much a threat to our growing farm. Though she's a hunter with smaller animals, she does great with other dogs. She gets a little nippy with particularly dominant dogs, but for the most part she loves the companionship. Most of all, however, she's a people dog. I just hate seeing her penned all day every day. She wasn't always penned. We're on 5 acres, and for awhile she lived off leash without fencing, but after several months she started wandering and would bring home roadkill, and eventually started pestering nearby farms. In other words, a good fenced yard with front door access would be best for her. Just beware if you're a gardener--she'll dig a hole in her favorite shady spot to lay in. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-10-00304Eddie (male)

Spitz Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When we got Eddie from someone on KSL a few years ago, we were told he was a cross between a pug and a chihuahua. Since then, we researched and suspect he is part Indian Spitz. But his hair is shorter than a spitz, and his body is built like a pug. Still, he's got the little underbite of a chihuahua. So he could be a chug-spitz? He's 6 years old. He's a sweet boy--adorable, really. He's got a natural smile and he's friendly but not overbearing. He was an inside dog until about a year ago, when our 1-year old hassled him and he nipped her on the face, giving her a bleeding scratch on the nose. Because of that incident, we don't dare sell ... (Read More)him through traditional means (liability too much of a risk). Some people suggested we put him down, but we couldn't do that. Instead, we made him an outside dog. That fixed that problem. He does great outside all year. So he can be an inside or outside dog. He actually gets along with the kids really well. Especially the older kids. But because of the bite incident, we have to list him as good with adults but not with kids. Since then, we've gotten farm animals (chickens, ducks and geese), and true to his breed (assuming we've classified him correctly), he's a little hunter, and goes after our birds. He has managed to kill 5 of our chickens. We've had him penned for the past few months, but he still managed to kill 2 birds, and injured another. The birds escaped their own pen and got into his (stupid birds). Still, another reason we can't sell him through traditional means. He's not good with other non-dog animals. Otherwise he really is a loving, sweet dog, and though it breaks our heart to have to find him a new home, we just don't have the time to do the intensive training he would need to stay with us, and our situation is not the best to keep him. If you are interested, I can tell you some of the things he enjoys. He loves tug of war. He loves chasing dirt. When I dig ditches he gets SO EXCITED, and loves leaping into the dirt as I toss it aside. Then he digs and yaps in excitement. He loves chasing snowballs. He'll chase them, and then dig for them. He gets everyone laughing hysterically when he plays. He also chases his tale (which may be what got him his name, Eddie), spinning around and around. He loves coming and sitting next to you, sitting on the edge of your lap, or laying on your feet while you sit on the couch. When we walk him, passersby are always enamored with how little and cute he is. I'm willing to negotiate on the adoption fee if you can't afford the $25. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Mutt in Utah
Mutt Dogs can make good pets in Utah if they match your IifestyIe. Mutts are some of the most loveable of all the types of dogs one can adopt. What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.
