Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00346Dew (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament

Would like to find a permanent, indoor only, home for this super sweet 18 year old lab mix, Dewey, whose long time owner died and left her with nowhere to go. She is arthritic and on tramadol, on good quality food since her skin/fur is a total mess from fleas and allergies; she is dog picky-meaning she does well with laid back, very calm, no faces in her face, type dogs. She deserves peace and quiet. Looking for a mature household, no kids, quiet, calm...she just needs a soft bed and to know she is loved in her final years. Health wise, no serious issues. Just a little stiff from age. Will be picky where she goes. We will provide a bed, and ... Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Hershey saw our wonderful friends at North Fork Animal Clinic and wowed them...she is just such an awesome rescue. Her blood work came back great-no heart worm disease and no tick diseases. All her vaccines including rabies are up to date and we're pretty sure she is spayed. She's never had a litter and looks like a faint spay scar so we're going with that :) We cannot stress what a wonderful furkid this is and she is now up for adoption. Dog friendly, every human friendly, loves car rides, great getting baths, house broken, crate trained but totally unnecessary, affectionate, great on a leash. All of which is amazing since were talking ... (Read More)about a dog chained up outside her entire life. Hershey was rescued from the Richland County shelter. She is around 7 years old, weighs 45 lbs, and is a medium sized lab mix. Hands down, best dog in the rescue. . Email us at: gratefulheartsseniordogrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00341Willow (female)

Pekingese Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This little Peke is looking for her forever home. Willow was rescued from the Franklin County Dog Shelter. She's fairly young-maybe 5-6 years old best guess. She had a UTI which is being treated. Has a bursa on her left shoulder which is fine as is-merely a cosmetic thing. Does have four bladder stones, which for now, we are treating conservatively with Royal Canin Urinary SO, dry and canned...this food has properties that break down the stones. So, if we can avoid putting her through surgery, we're going to try. Will be about 6 months or more, before we can determine whether this is effective. If she does end up needing surgery, and is ... (Read More)adopted in the meantime, we will 'help' the adopter with costs-as long as the procedure is done with our rescue vet here in Chillicothe Oh. This is a fairly involved and expensive surgery. Willow is spayed, current on all vaccines, 75% house broken, pretty much dog friendly as long as they are calm and live and let live type dogs-no rowdy, in your face dogs for her. Crate trained but she lets you know she doesn't approve. Love car rides, very affectionate, sweet and cute as can be. If you're interested in Willow, please email us at: gratefulheartsseniordogrescue@gmail.com for an application. (Less)

Boomer is a 4 year old, 40lb Australian Shepherd mix. She is a very sweet girl who loves a good belly rub. Her favorite activities are playing fetch for treats, tugging on a rope or toy and going on short jogs. She is fairly low energy for an Aussie, requiring either one or two good ball sessions a day or a 2 mile walk/run. She does enjoy a long walk every few days. She sleeps in her crate and is potty trained, able to hold it while we are at work for 10+ hours. She loves playing in the snow in winter but doesn't like the rain to much. She loves learning new tricks and is very highly food motivated. She lives with our cat and they ... (Read More)occasionally play together. She wants to find a home with a decent fenced in back yard with no children or dogs. She walks with a loose leash but still has some leash reactivity that can be managed. She has gone to the OSU Veterinary Medical Center which is helping with some fear/nervousness around dogs and strangers. Animal ID: SirenSiren (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hey! I see you looking at me! My name is Siren, so named because when my foster mommy brought me home and put me in the crate the first time, she said my crying sounded like a Siren. But I'm better now and I don't cry in my crate. I know it's a safe place. But you see, I didn't know that the first time. I came from the shelter, and I ended up there after some pretty bad stuff. I try not to remember it, but I was so skinny that you could see all my ribs. The first thing I did when I got to my new foster home was eat and eat and eat because there was more food than I had ever seen and it was soooooo good. I drank a lot of water too. My foster ... (Read More)mommy says she thinks I was dehydrated, because in just a couple of days I had already filled out some. I also had itchy, flaky skin from flea dermatitis, but I took some meds for that and am already feeling better. I really like my foster home, because there are lots of warm blankets and 3 nice foster sister doggies to play and cuddle with, and my foster mommy and daddy love to pet and cuddle me. But I would really like my own furever home for Christmas. I really like other dogs, and kids. I would probably do well with cats too, because I am a really sweet, submissive girl. I know to go to the door when I need to go potty, and as long as I haven't drank a LOT of water like that first day, I don't make a mess in my crate either. Do you have lots of warm blankets and cuddles to share with me? I have lots of kisses and cuddles to share with you! Siren is a Boxer mix and is about 2 years old. That is no way for a sweet girl like her to live. So we knew we had to help!! She appears to have had many litters, but is such a sweet dog. When the family came to us, they had more fleas on them than we had ever seen on dogs. The fleas were embedded into their skin. Momma Maggie is just the sweetest girl. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Very Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Malnourished, Abused/Neglected

This is Gabriel Jackson. This boy was in BAD shape. He was only 29 pounds and you could see every rib in his body. He had a huge ruptured tumor on his hind end. He had next to no muscle mass and it was hard for him to stand when he was laying down. Gabe is both heartworm and parvo negative. He is gaining some strength, so he can now stand on his own from a laying position if he wants to. He has even pushed over the baby gate in his foster home multiple times. The tumor results showed it is NOT cancer!! His weight is up to 48.4 lbs. He got that awful tumor removed from his hip!!! He is an old boy and we don't know how much longer he will ... (Read More)have, but he deserves to spend the rest of his days in a loving home. Gabe is housetrained but can only go about 4 hours before needing to be let out. He isn't comfortable with being in his crate. So between the potty needs and his crate issue it would be good for Gabe to go to a home where someone is home a lot for him. Plus we think after all he's gone through he should get tons of attention! Gabe's foster mom says that he loves to play ball but it has to be a big ball, those tennis balls don't interest him. And he needs bones because loves to chew on them. He does like walks but he walks very slowly and only for short distances. Rescue Me ID: 16-12-05-00140Oscar (male)

Poodle Mix    Age: Senior

Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We were recently able to pull Oscar from the county shelter. He is a poodle mix and appears to have had a very rough life. He will be seen by the vet soon and we will keep you updated! He is a super sweet, little guy and LOVES to be held!! 11/20: Oscar was seen by the vet and overall is not in as bad of shape as we thought he might be. He is heartworm negative (YAY!) and most of his hair loss is just due to being so matted up. His teeth are completely rotten and he does need to get neutered. He will be having surgery for both of those things, as well as anything else the vet deems needs fixed this coming Friday. Prayers for our sweet Oscar ... (Read More)the grouch ;) 12/4: On Friday, Oscar was neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Due to excessive decay and infection, he had to have the rest of his teeth removed. He is a senior boy, but overall his health is not bad. It is what is to be expected for a dog of his age. He is very sweet and will make someone a fantastic lap dog. His adoption fee is $100 and you can fill out an application at http://pawpatroldayton.com/adoptable-dogs/. *All Adopters must reside within a 100 mile radius of Dayton, OH (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed

2 - 3 Years Old **Already Spayed** Well hello there! My name is Akyah and I'm what you might call a 'pocket pit' because I'm just so tiny, I could fit in your pocket! Not really, but I am much smaller than some other members of my breed! I love to go for walks, but sometimes forget that you aren't as excited as I am to be outside....what I mean to say is, I might pull a little bit, so it's probably a good thing I am so small! Tennis balls are my passion and I can jump and catch them in mid air without any trouble! So far I have done really well with the children that have come to visit me at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center ... (Read More)but I have not been tested with other dogs or cats yet. Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adult Men Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Dash is a tough case. I have had him since he was 12 weeks old where he was abandoned at my vet clinic. I would call him unpredictable at best. He spends most of his time wanting to cuddle and be loved on and be in your lap. But he gets anxious and can be aggressive at times. He does usually get along very well with dogs once he is able to get to know them and if the other dog is not too aggressive. I have seen him be as gentle as can be while playing with an intact male chihuahua. He has bitten 2 people (coming into his house) and lunged after 2 kids (no damage, just pushed too far). He also tends to get very anxious on walks and will ... (Read More)attack the leash or hand if you're trying to unwrap him from his fight with the leash.     Hi, I'm Norman. I have a confession to make... My foster mommy calls me her 'bull in a china shop'. I have no idea what she's talking about. I am about a year old. I love to play with the other dog in my foster home. There are cats here, but that's ok because I like them. I like the kids who live here too. I am a small American Bulldog mix and I weigh about 45 lbs. I sometimes get a little excited & crash into things... There was that one coffee table incident - I swear I have no idea what happened!     Hi I'm Noelle! I am about 3 years old & I am a collie mix. I am a sweet, gentle soul who found myself at the shelter. My family did not come looking for me and I was scared. You see, I have something called flea dermatitis which is an allergy to fleas. It makes my hair on my rump really thin. Unfortunately that means that my time at the shelter was limited. It's not fair because it's so easy to treat. I have no issues if I get monthly flea prevention. I know that most people come to this rescue to adopt a pit bull. I understand that because I think pits are wonderful. I love all dogs. But I'm special too and I need to find my forever home ...     Hello everyone. Meet Bree. This beautiful Shepherd/Boxer mix will be 7yrs old in April. We got her from the Coshocton county animal shelter 7/31/2010. She is good with kids/people- very friendly and good with other animals. She will however chase things that are not supposed to be in our yard, such as deer, squirrels and cats. She knows her basic commands and loves to play with other dogs. We love Bree, but our home situation has changed. The kids have gone to live with their father, and I work very long hours. It's not fair to her that she isn't getting the attention she deserves. We hope we can find her a home with children, as she loved ... (Read More)being their nanny. She will make a wonderful addition to any home, though. We just want what's best for her. (Less)

Hello, I'm Bruno! I'm a Dachshund mix (possibly beagle) and super handsome. I don't know how to count in human, but I think I'm around 1 and a half years old! I'm shy at first and get scared easily, but love being around humans and giving lots of kisses once I get to know you! I am house trained but occasionally have accidents if something scares me. I love walks/spending time outside with my human. Bear has had all of his veterinary care done. He is neutered, up to date on shots and micro-chipped. He needs to be placed with people who owner their own home with a large, securely fenced yard. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, My name is Elvis. They call me Elvis 'cause I ain't nothin' but a hounddog and apparently I'm a pretty dang good singer. I am about 6 years old and I weigh 63.1 lbs. I was found as a stray in the East Liverpool area and I was picked up by the pound. I was obviously and "outside" dog in my previous life, but I am very happy to say that has all changed for me. The girls here say I get to be a house dog from here on out and I do really like the thought of that! I love my warm, cozy bed here. I love that it stays warm all the time in the winter and I love that my water never freezes over at night anymore. I keep my kennel ... (Read More)clean at night, but I will likely need some work with house training since I have been an outside dog. I get along well with all of the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound too. If you're looing for a super sweet and loving dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. (Less)

(Less)

Animal ID: 469-16Skyler (female)

Bluetick Coonhound Mix    Age: Adult

Hey there...I'm Skyler! Yep, you guessed it, I'm a coonhound and I'm a big, beautiful one too! The Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center became my home because my humans were not taking care of me and my many housemates. See my ribs? I could stand to gain a good bit of weight and then I know I would be absolutely stunning! Like most other hounds, when I'm outside on a walk I go into hunting mode...that means my nose is pressed so hard into the ground that it disappears and I zig zag all over the place tracking whatever it is I can find! Does that make it sound like I'm a puller on a leash? Well, yep, that's what I am!!! Like I ... (Read More)mentioned before, I had a lot of other housemates so I didn't get a whole bunch of personal attention. It's going to take me a little bit of time to learn what being loved and cared for really means, but I can't wait!     Hi! My name is Mandy and as you can see, I am one incredibly beautiful girl inside and out! I'm a total sweetheart and a complete sucker for affection! So how did a great girl like me end up at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center? Someone dumped me here!! The Wardens weren' there so my humans just left me outside, scared an all alone.     Hi! You can call me Ruger, because that's the what the humans here at the adoption center have renamed me! I got a little bit lost and ended up in the middle of traffic on a busy road, and luckily a nice lady picked me up and brought me to safety. They estimate that I am about six years old, and they rave about how I am friendly dog that goes into a crate easily and sleeps through the night (not to toot my horn!). Don't be fooled by the fact that my face is starting to gray.. I am still young at heart with lots of energy and love to give! Animal ID: 459-16Mickey (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

The name's Mickey, and I'm a real man's man...nothing mouse-like about me....well, other than my ears! My story is the same as so many other dogs here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center - my people weren't able to take care of me anymore so I landed here as a result. It's a real bummer, but I'm managing the best I can. If you can't tell, I'm a stocky fella, a real athletic stud type of guy. I'm a bit of a puller on a leash and I'm not too sure about all of this kennel business, but this stuff is all so new to me. If I were asked to describe my personality I would say I'm more of an 'all business' type and less of the ... (Read More)'snuggly' variety. Does that mean that I don't like a good scratch behind these ears? Absolutely not...but my previous people just weren't big on lovin' on me so I've got to learn what all of this affection stuff is all about! I'm not too sure about some other dogs...especially the ones who like to get all barky and what not, so if you are interested in me and have another pet, I'd really like to meet them first before I decide if they are cool or not. Anyway, that's me...Mickey...come check me out when you get a chance!     Hey guys! Mabel here! I may be a little pocket pit, but don't let my size fool you!! I've got plenty of strength and spunk to match anyone bigger than me! I am a healthy happy boy that is neutered and up to date on my vaccines. I was so unhappy when I came to the rescue as I had to leave the only home that I had known.     Meet Remi! This handsome mug is so much fun, we can't even describe his awesome personality through text. Remi was pulled last minute from a high-kill shelter in Tennessee where he was scheduled to die by euthanasia simply for being unwanted. We couldn't let him lose his life when he was completely innocent so we saved him and two other pups with mere minutes to spare. Remi has already begun to shower everyone he meets in appreciation for giving him another day of life. He is absolutely great with other dogs, and adores kids. He is a little too interested in cats so no-cat homes only please. Remi is neutered and fully vetted and just ...     Hi, my name is Tootsie. I came to the rescue with 8 tiny babies. They have all gotten adopted & now it's my turn. My foster mommy says that I am one of the sweetest dogs she has ever met. I am very snuggly & I love snuggling in someone's lap. I would be a great companion animal for someone who needed an emotional support dog because I am in tune with my person's feelings and I love to be close. Not so much for the benefit of my person but because it makes me feel good. I live with cats & I know that it upsets my foster mommy when I chase them. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hi! I'm 'CHUCK'! A handsome, fun loving, playful 1.5 yr old, 50-60 lb. pooch that was saved from a very 'high-kill' pound. I can play hard with other dogs yet be a lapdog and snuggle with my foster mom when I need downtime! My foster mom says I am so 'lovable'; maybe shes biased!? When I've had a bad day, I love to jump up for hugs. My foster mom could see I had a lot of energy, probably because I'm a working breed, and I would do great with someone who can take me out to really stretch my legs for long walks, maybe jogs or just had a lot of land I could run around on. I think it would be great if I could have someone who has a little ... (Read More)time and patience to work with me on my skills!I play really well with other dogs! My foster home had three other dogs and oh my gosh I had so much fun! I guess I'm kinda handsome seeing that the two females really liked me! Not that I'm bragging ... I even got along with the ALPHA female dog and boy was she a toughie! I do love cats/kittens but maybe a little too much? I got a little too excited when I saw them. I would never hurt them but they were funny little creatures that would run when I saw them so I thought they were playmates to chase! I am a good, sweet, gentle boy that never had 'an accident' in my foster home. Chuck was on the 'euth' list due to shelter overcrowding and being tested early stage 'heart worm positive'. He was slight/early onset heart worm positive, and underwent the 'fast kill' treatment (which the rescue provided) and is now ready to find his forever home! Chuck is current on vaccinations, house-trained, crate-trained and on monthly heart-worm preventative (which he will need to be e for the remainder of his natural life. He is listed still as heart-worm positive because for 6 months after the fast kill treatment, his blood work will still potentially register 'positive, His last treatment was early August 2016). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., pro-biotics; vitamins, etc).     Hi there. My name is Georgia. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 80-90 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salem area and I was brought in to the pound. i am a very super duper sweet and friendly girl! I absolutely love people! I am always happy to meet someone new. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to yor family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for ... (Read More)adoption fees. Rat Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Duncan. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 25 lbs. I was brought in to the pound as a stray. I am a feral dog, which means I have had little to no human socialization at all. I am completely unsocialized other than the human contact that I have had since arriving here at the pound. I mostly just try to avoid humans as much as I can. I still find them quite terrifying, though I am doing much better than I was when I first arrived. I do like other dogs really well and I do great with them. Being around the other dogs here has really helped me start coming around. When I am around the other dogs, I will actually get up ... (Read More)and wander around and explore things. I am getting more and more curious about people but I haven't started trying to come up to them yet and I don't really care for being touched yet. So far, I haven't attempted to bite, even though I am terrified. I mostly just try to hide to avoid you. I need a home or a rescue group with knowledge and experience in helping feral/unsocialized dogs. Needless to say, once I learn to accept and like human contact, I will require a good but of training, socialization and housebreaking. Please help me if you're able. Rescue Me ID: 16-11-20-00253Liberty (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Liberty is a wonderful dog. She is not fond of female dogs. She belonged to an older couple that were no longer able to care for her without endangering their health. She does fine with cats and chickens, and has yet to meet a human she won't warm up to. She is housebroken. She loves being with our male dog, but does not like any of our females except our extraordinarily submissive beagle. She is most certainly an alpha to other dogs, but submissive to her people. She spent the beginning of her life as a stray, so she does tend to wander if loose. We have worked with her on this extensively, and she has greatly improved, but it is ... (Read More)still a natural instinct for her. She has a gorgeous, smooth coat and sheds very, very little compared to our other dogs. I don't honestly know what she is mixed with since she was a stray before the shelter got her, and the couple got her from the shelter. She is very muscular, and with her very smooth coat and temperament makes me think maybe boxer/lab and goodness knows what else. (Less)
