Rescue Me ID: 16-02-13-00408Baxter (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baxter is such a handsome boy and a lover! He is 8 months old and is very mellow when he is by himself. He gets along great with other dogs and cats and children. Just wants to play. He is pretty much housebroken. He still needs a little training when left alone too long in the house, but he is still just a puppy and will quickly learn.

(Read More)please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Memphis is a 5yr old Chorkie. Super friendly, loves to be loved and play fetch with small balls. I work 3-4 14 hr days and have a 3 yr old. He is not getting the attention he needs. The 3yr has been rough with him and he doesnt deserve it.He loves love and attention, loves walks (must be on leash). He is very possessive of food, he does not like to be bothered while eating. He is spoiled and prefers treats and human food.He will use pee pads at night and when left home alone for a few hours.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I have a 3 year old female red-pitbull/terrier mix. She has been fixed and has all her shots (will provide shot record) she is micro-chipped and that can be changed to your name. She is very loving and enjoys taking walks, riding in car and just hanging out. She typically sleeps with one of my children at night, and we only use the crate when we are gone for long times. She is house broken and crate trained though. She doesn't like lots of loud noises, so she wouldn't be good around small children. She would be best for a couple or single person who wants a companion. I'm not sure how she would do with other dogs, as she doesn't chase ... (Read More)any on walks, but hasn't been around any very often either. I adopted her from the kennel and although have enjoyed her, I am finding that with my work schedule and my teenagers working more now, we are not home as often to give her the attention she needs. I am only asking $50 re-homing fee to basically help offset the new crate I just bought for her. I want her to go to a good home where she will be loved and appreciated. She is very gentle and sleeps a lot (lol). She is very protective and barks if there is loud noises or she sees people arguing (yelling). She will come with her shot records (including updated rabies she just got in January), collars, leash, food bowl, water bowl and crate. Serious inquiries only, please... (Less)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

%A0 Hello, my name is Cupcake (known as Momma). I came into rescue with my two puppies when they were only 2 weeks old named Faith and Hope. I am on the skinny side at 8.1 pounds and hopefully will gain weight when I'm finished nursing my pups. I am not one who really likes treats. I am not a big eater - my foster mom slips me some good stuff sometimes! %A0 I came from a breeder/hoarder in Kentucky. One of our members in KY pulled us out of that situation (in addition to 2 other breeder mothers). %A0 Since I've been here I've had a thorough health examination at the vet's office. I received all my shots, was fecal and ... (Read More)heartworm tested (which were negative) and was micro-chipped. I'm waiting to get spayed on Feb. 3rd and after healing will be ready to leave my foster home and start a new life. %A0 Hopefully, once I'm spayed my puppies will be on their own. They are growing like little weeds and my job is just about done for the last time. My foster mom said that I'm a good momma, but to enjoy my pups because I won't have a life producing puppies anymore. She said it's time to focus on me - to have a loving forever home to love me for who I am. The life that I had has been hard on me. I do have some health issues to be aware of: I have one eye which is smaller than normal and when it was brought to the vet's attention, my foster home was told that I'm blind in that eye. You would never know it - or suspect it. I also am having a difficult time being house-trained. I appear crate trained, but seem to have lots of accidents. We're going to check with the vet to see if I could have a bladder infection. I had ear infection which is all cleared up. I'm a healthy girl - just have some issues after a hard life. No one is perfect! %A0 I enjoy napping on the back of the couch or will jump in and snuggle up with my puppies. In the evening, I like to get close to my foster mom on the couch and nap. I love going outside. I would prefer to have a fenced in yard. I haven't been on walks because I'm having a hard time learning how to walk on a leash. I never had the pleasure of taking walks with my owner before - we didn't have that type of relationship. %A0 I will be looking for a new forever loving home very soon. I would be a good dog for about any situation - a single person or a family. I've not been around real young kids so it might be best to meet them first. Children older in age would probably be ok. I haven't been around cats so we would have to test for safety. I do bark some - so possibly an apartment might not be the best?? We would have to check that out. If you're looking for a sweet, beautiful girl'| I know you will fall in love with me right away - I'm just that! If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Cupcake1593.html .%A0 Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html %A0(Email my foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received! ) I just can't wait to find a forever home!%A0 Thanks!!!     Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to look at our rescue dogs. This little girl's name is Sophie. She is a year old female Yorkie-Chihuahua Mix. She is a very small girl that likes the finer things in life. She loves to be held and carried around. She loves children and bonds with them quickly. Due to her small size, we are asking that applicant's children music be above 6 years of age. Sophie's previous owners were not able to socialize her much outside of their home - meaning'| that she does very well in a familiar environment, but tends to get nervous and defensive when in a new environment. After she warms up and ... (Read More)settles in, she is such a joy to be around. She has a great activity level and is eager to please. Due to her lack of confidence, she can be a bit 'alpha' at times and would benefit greatly from training. She is housebroken. Does this sweet little girl sound like the perfect match for you? If so'| Sophie may be your girl! (Less)

(Less)

Hi there. My name is Honey. I'm about 8 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salineville area and I was brought in to the pound. I'm a super sweet and rather spunky older gal! I'm really funny. Typically dogs my age don't quite have the shenanigans I have. I act and play like i'm still a puppy! I'm really sad and quiet in my kennel, but when I get to come out and play, I am a totally different dog. I'm very friendly and loving with people and I get along well with other dogs I have met since I have been here at the pound. If you're looking for a really sweet, older dog to add to your family, please consider ... (Read More)adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT.     Hi there! My name is Pokey! I'm about 2 years old and I weigh 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Leetonia area and I was brought in to the pound. I came in with a horrible injured foot and tail. I had been running around like that for a couple of days until someone was able to gain my trust and catch me. Poor Fonzie came into rescue a yucky mess, severely matted, full of worms, sneezing, and coughing. He was found as a stray, so not much is known about this sweet boy. If interested, please contact us for an application. Our rescue does not go by a first come, first serve basis. We process the applications that come in, and choose the best home for each dog. However, we also do not hold dogs. They are ready to be adopted now. After a dog is adopted, we can then rescue another dog in need. Thank you for choosing a ... (Read More)rescue dog. (Less)

This is my dog Barney. He is a rescue that we have had for a year now. Eventhough my family has come to love him, because of my hectic schedule and inexperience with his breed, I am unable to keep him. If anyone with lots of love and patience and the right home, please contact me. This is a hard decision but it is best for all of us. He needs more attention and to be treated like a king. He is a wonderful dog and my 1 year old is his favorite pal.

(Less)

Animal ID: PPR16-01Buster (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Buster Brown (Buster for short). I'm a male 12 pound Chihuahua mix (possibly with a pug). I am 7 years old and very active for my age. %A0 I came to Puppy Pals Rescue when a member in KY, Miss Lisa, called and told them about me. I lived with her for a week or so until a transport to Ohio could be arranged - and she fell in love with me. I was a shelter dog so no history of my past is known, but I have so much personality and sweetness - you can't imagine it all in one dog! %A0 After Miss Lisa was told that Puppy Pals would take me, she arranged for me to get all my shots and be neutered in KY. I ... (Read More)received a clean bill of health from the vet in KY. My foster mom needs to take me to be micro-chipped before I am adopted. %A0 Unfortunately, I had a difficult time with my neutering incision and had to wear the 'Collar of Shame' for several weeks. I had to go to the vet for some medicine once I arrived in Ohio for healing. I am now a healthy dog looking for my forever home. You would never know that I'm 7 years young. The only sign of age is that my upper teeth are worn down (which is more a sign of how hard my past life was then of my age). I do eat soft food only. My foster mom took a video of me dancing on my hind legs. She said she had to because I am so cute! I get so excited when I get a small piece of chicken or cheese. (I just found out they were hiding medicine in them. I'm not complaining mind you, but is that fair?) %A0 I love to sleep, nap, and eat in my crate. I am doing wonderful on my house-training. I like to go outside and chase the birds and squirrels. I love when my foster mom throws the tennis ball and I chase after it. She keeps telling me to bring it back'| why? I just run around with it in my mouth! The other dogs here scared me at first, but we are all best friends now. There is a momma dog here who is quite alpha and possessive of her pups and doesn't like anyone to go near them. I caught on fast - do not go near them! Now we're all best friends and Momma trusts me. I'm a very nice guy and wouldn't hurt a fly. We (the Momma, another foster named Jessa and I) like to chase each other out in the yard. I'm looking for a quiet home. I would like a family who might have older kids - or an older couple who wants the joy of an older, sweet, loving guy like me. I will make a wonderful walking companion and best friend. I would prefer a fenced in yard, however I've not shown any signs of being an escape artist or a runner. I do walk well on the leash, so if I could be walked outside to potty it might be okay without. However... I love to play ball and chase the other dogs and those things need a fence! One of my favorite things is being outside. However when I'm inside... I like to look out the window for any activity and show that I'm a great watch dog. %A0 My foster mom says that she can't say enough good things about me. I adjust very fast and listen to instructions and come when I'm called. %A0 If you're looking for a fun, loving, good boy'| I may be your guy! If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Buster1601.html .%A0 Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html %A0(Email my foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received! ) I just can't wait to find a forever home!%A0 Thanks!!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-27-00431Sierra (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Adoption Pending. SIERRA was a stray wandering in the countryside in rural NW TN when she came to the home of someone who contacted the rescue for help. At only 35 pounds with ribs showing, it was obvious she had been on her own for a while. She is now safe in a foster home where she is getting good nutrition, so we expect she will regain weight. Sierra is a brown and white Pit mix female who is estimated to be around one year old. She is very sweet and likes to crawl up into your lap and whimper a bit to see if she can get any more food or extra treats. She tested negative for heartworm and has been vaccinated and vetted. She will ... (Read More)also be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Sierra if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit rescue to cover the cost of the veterinary care she has received and the microchip. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OLLIE is lucky to be alive. This sweet, friendly white Pit mix female was locked in a shed and left to die. She was in there for nearly a week with no food or fresh water. Thankfully, a neighbor realized she was there and contacted the authorities. She is now safe in a foster home where she is receiving good nutrition and TLC. She weighed 43 pounds when first examined by the vet and her ribs were showing at that weight. We expect she will now gain weight. She was very scared when first rescued and just wanted to get down to the ground. It was as though she had lost her spirit and trust in people. She needs a family who will help her ... (Read More)get that back. She has let volunteers pet and love on her after she has seen that they are OK and that she is safe. She is very calm and sweet. The vet estimates she is about 2 years old. She tested negative for heartworm and has been vaccinated and vetted. She will also be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Ollie if it means she will have a good forever home.     LANCE has A LOT to offer some lucky family! He is a loving, well-behaved, smaller black Lab mix male who is full grown at 35 to 40 pounds. He is estimated to be 2 years of age. American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered

Hi I'm Boss! I am about 3 years old. I came to the rescue from a breeder who was breeding blue Staffordshire terriers. My foster mom says that I am an 80 lb sweetheart, but that they were not breeding for looks, not brains. I am a big, stocky guy, but I am pretty low to the ground. I can produce a perfect sit (if you are holding a treat) and I am great in my crate. Otherwise I am big and goofy and I love to run around the yard like a chicken with its head cut off. No is really not my favorite word... I am great with cats and dogs. If you would like to make me a part of your family, please fill out the adoption application at ... Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Very sweet and gentle little 30 lb golden mix; 2-3 years old, fully vetted and undergoing slow kill treatment for her heartworm. Completely house broken, crate trained and quiet. Loves to cuddle, play with toys, great on a leash and loves car rides. Has done very well with my dogs here and plays with them but possibly may need to be the only pet due to a prior incident while in foster care where she had an incident with the resident dog. Hoping this was a one time thing as I have seen zero aggression in this girl. Lassie has had a rough start in her young life, and has the saddest eyes and face, but is really a happy girl, and the most ... (Read More)loving couch potato. We spend many hours cuddling together and watching tv. She would be the absolute perfect companion for a mature senior-asks for so very little and loyal to a fault. She does have a distinct and apparent fear of all men in general . This is usually indicative of a dog that has been abused severely in the past. Although we've been working on this with her, and exposing her to social outings that include males, we have seen no improvement in her fear issues. So, she'd be best placed in a female only home, unless the male can be infinitely patient. She is not aggressive to men, but petrified of them.Adoption application, vet and professional ref, home check and small rehome fee all apply to adopt her to an indoor home only. (Less)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Pudge. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. My friend Wonder Mutt and I were surrendered to the pound because my owner was not providing adequate care for us. I'm a really sweet boy. I can be a little bit shy with people at first but I warm up nicely once I get to know you. I get along well with other dogs. I have never been a house dog so I need a family that will be very patient and understanding with me and be able to train and housebreak me. I have just lived my life as an outside dog getting a minimal amount of attention and care. My body tells the tale of neglect I have lived. I have a scar across my ... (Read More)foot and a missing toe, likely from having my foot caught up in wire. When the pound came out to check on us after receiving a humane call, none of us had any water (just ice) in our bowls and inadequate shelter/ straw to keep us warm in the cold temperatures. Our owners agreed to surrender us so we can have a better life. If you're looking for a nice dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER JANUARY 19, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $110 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. THE POUND IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 8 AM- 4 PM AND SATURDAY FROM 9 AM- 12 PM. WE ARE CLOSED SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. (Less)

Diamond has been with our family since 3 months old. She grew up with our kids. She is very attached to the females in our family. In her older age she is anxious around little ones. She does get used to them but usually wants to go outside when little ones are in the house. I'm unsure about other animals. We had a bunny for a little while and it ran freely around the house and she never bothered it, but she gets protective, especially over her female owners towards other dogs. Health: Spayed

Hi I'm River! A kind animal control officer found me living in a window well. Someone had dumped some straw in there but I was starving. I was so scared that I ran towards the river and nearly fell in when the officer tried to help me. I am so happy to finally have a warm safe place to sleep. I am slowly gaining weight and my foster mommy said that I'm gorgeous!! I like other dogs and kids! I am around 3 years old! I should weigh around 60 lbs. I still have a few pounds to gain! To meet River, got to www.adoptapitrescue.org to fill out an application! River has been vaccinated, spayed and microchipped! River's adoption fee is $175
