Rescue Me ID: 16-04-30-00013Gavro (male)

Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Due to changes in our family & work schedules we are putting our 3.5 year-old dog up for adoption. He is not getting the attention that he needs & it's been a heartbreaking situation which we can't alleviate. He is a very playful & lovable dog, good with our toddler (we always supervise), high energy, loves to run free in the dog park, play with other dogs & throw around his toys. As for temperament, we describe it as average but he's a mix of both submissive & dominant--for example, he obeys stay & no when in the house & lets our toddler take over when they're playing but outdoors he gets a little dominant & will lead walks (will pull you ... (Read More)around when not regular with walks) and will take a few extra 'come-ons' to get him to leave the park unless he's really pooped. Husky's will howl when bored (or when they hear police/fire sirens) and they are very smart-they'll figure out a way to run off to 'play' when their needs are not being met. Contact me if interested & we can discuss further to see if your family would be a good fit. Thank you! (Less)

Pocket Pit! 45lbs. Bruno is a rescue from the Cleveland APL. He was in the shelter for 90days. I have had him for a year at this point. He has some bite scars on his face and was probably used as a bait dog. However, he loves other dogs and is in dog day-care daily. He has low energy inside and more energetic outside. He is walked several times a day and I run with him 3x a week. He needs to be in more of a quiet home with active people. Kids make him nervous ... and he is hand shy. Housebroken. If you take him and it's not a fit, he is welcome to come back within an agreed amount of time.

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Our Lennie lived a hard life before coming into rescue. She came to us from death row in a Texas shelter. Her eye had been gouged out by some unscrupulous individual and she was heart worm positive. She has since been treated and is recovering nicely. We are looking for a home where she can be the only animal. Children 15 and up are fine. Lenny deserves a happy life and a nice yard to play in.     Buddy came to us from a Southern Ohio dog pound. His owner turned him into the shelter in February, the pound was getting full and Buddy was in danger of being put to sleep because he has been there so long. We just couldn't stand to let that happen so we took him. Buddy is a really great dog. He is fun, happy and gets along with other dogs (as long as they are neutered, he doesn't seem to appreciate the un-neutered males. He is being neutered on 04/21 so this could help that issue. He isn't aggressive with them just doesn't want them to bother him). He has been great around the children he has met, he did show some signs of being ... Poodle Mix    Age: Senior

Bean is a female Poodle ShihTzu mix who was at a local dog pound. She is so sweet, gets along with other dogs and is just happy little girl. The pound thought she was roughly 12 years old. We have her scheduled to have blood work, dental and to be spayed and our vet will give a better estimate on age. She has most definitely had litters of puppies and that can sometimes make a dog appear older then they really are. adoption fee: $150

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-22-00567Eve (female)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This sweet girl was found with 3 other dogs. We don't think the dogs are related, but they may have all been from the same owner. Eve is very shy and was extremely attached to the other dogs she came in with. On top of having at least one litter of puppies at some point in the past, she appears to have been abused and/or neglected and is afraid of humans. So we moved her to a separate foster home where she is learning that humans can be loving and caring. She gets along well with other dogs and does fine with the cats in her foster home. Eve is being crate trained and does not fuss at all in her crate. She's also done great with potty ... (Read More)training and has had no accidents in her foster home. And she's starting to show some interest in playing with toys. As Eve adjusts to a happy life, she is learning that no one is going to hurt her. But quick movements and loud noises scare her. She is skittish when approached by humans and will back away. Although her foster mom is happy to report that she is now able to pet her. A somewhat quiet home would be best for Eve as she continues to learn what it is like living in a safe and loving atmosphere. Eve will be spayed, micro chipped, vaccinated and have a dental completed on Monday, May 2. She will then be ready for her forever home. We cannot be sure of Eve's age although our estimate is around 2-3 years old. Our vet will confirm. weight: approx. 40 pounds age: pending vet confirmation adoption fee: $200 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-21-00419Zeke (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Zeke. I'm 2 years old and I weigh about 75 lbs. I was seized by the pound from my owner because I was being abused. Charges were filed and my owner was found guilty. I am super duper excited to be able to find a new, loving family now... A family that would never abuse me. I am the most wonderful, happy, sweetest dog you could ever imagine meeting! My tail wags nonstop and I am always happy to see you. I do really hate the kennel environment. I have been here at the pound since the beginning of March, so I'm really hoping to find a new family soon. I really don't like being all alone in my kennel. The girls here say ... (Read More)they couldn't ask for a sweeter, more well behaved dog than me when I am in the office with them. I am very affectionate and I love to play, but as long as I get to run around to play and I get my walks a couple of times a day, I'm an excellent boy. When I'm in the office, I mostly just sleep. I do appear to have been housebroken at one time or another, because as long as I get to potty before coming in to the office, I absolutely do not mess in the office. I get along well with almost all of the other dogs I meet. There have only been a couple that I haven't gotten along with, and they were always the ones who 'started something'. I can sometimes be a little too rough or overbearing when I play with the other dogs, but I'm not an aggressive dog by any means. I will likely need to be crated when my family leaves me alone, or at least until I get adjusted to my new life. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER APRIL 21, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $120 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING, MICROCHIP AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO.     My name is Mae and I'm a 6 month, extra cuddly girl who came into the shelter lost and afraid. The world is a scary place when you're 25lbs and all alone. Other dogs picked on me and I couldn't find much to eat. Thankfully, once at the shelter, they comforted me and made me feel special. I would sit in their laps and cry that someone was giving me love. In my foster home I've come alive. I still love to sit in laps but now I feel happy and safe. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Hi! I'm Biggs! I am about a year and a half old & I weigh 70 lbs. I am a big boy! I am an American Bulldog mix. My fur has a tiny curl to it down my back so I am mixed with something hairy for sure! So, I have an admission to make: I'm not a perfect dog. I like girl dogs a lot but I am kinda like a bull in a china shop when it comes to saying hello & that can be off putting for other dogs. However, I am best buddies with a girl dog at my foster home!     Meet the lovely Lily! Lily is a beagle/basset mix, about 10 years old, who was rescued from death row at the pound. She is extremely good-natured and gets on great with both adults and children. She also gets on very well with other dogs and lived with her sister Sammi, our other senior beagle rescue girl, before she ended up at the pound. Although Lily has not been cat-tested, she is very relaxed and gentle, so we think she could probably be trained to live with cats. (Less)

(Less)

Animal ID: 14216Bob Cornfoot (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, folks! My name is Bob Cornfoot. I'm around 2 years old and I weigh 85.6 lbs. I was found surrendered to the pound by my (new) owner because I didn't mix well with the other dogs they had. They had a really annoying puppy that just wouldn't leave me alone. I didn't want to bite the puppy, but he just wouldn't leave me be. They only had me for 2 days and wouldn't keep the puppy away from me. I was in a strange environment with strange dogs and strange people. I was not comfortable yet. I really tried to be a good boy! The people even said that I am potty trained and I was good with their kids. I am great with the other dogs that I ... (Read More)have been around here at the pound. I would be especially good with a dog that is calmer and quiet. I don't really like all of the commotion and crazy puppy shenanigans. If you currently have any other dogs, I need to meet them prior to adoption to make sure we get along well. I am a very big, very strong fellow. My family will need to be able to handle my strength. It is highly advised that my new family gets in touch with a trainer to help me with leash manners if they don't know how to work with me. I don't know any better and I will drag you all over the place. I am a really wonderful boy here at the pound. When it is nice outside, I love being left in the large fenced play area here. I love lounging around in the warm sunshine in the grass. Though I can be quite a vocal boy when I'm playing or waiting on a treat, I tend to be very quiet in the yard. I really enjoy it out there even when I'm left alone. I usually just go get a ball and roll around or lay around with it in my mouth. I really love the big, heavy duty rubber Kong ball here. It easily withstands my chewing and has become my favorite. Maybe my new family could get me some... Anyhow, that's kind of all I can tell you about myself. If you think I would be a good match for your family, please consider adopting me! I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. I also tested negative for heartworm on 4/13/16 My pull fee for any approved rescue group has been fully sponsored by my friends Teresa and Karen!! Big sloppy dog kisses to my friends! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER MARCH 30, 2016. Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

 Fearful/Anxious

His name is Milo and he was given to me as an alternative to being euthanized several months ago. I have limited knowledge on him before he was dropped off but his previous family didn't have the time for him anymore. He is a young boxer mutt, approximately 18-20 months old. Milo is neutered, up-to-date on shots and about 35 pounds. Poor boy has been through several homes, some of which were abusive and failed to train him properly. He will need a loving home where he has plenty of human contact and someone with ample time to work with him. I work too much to give him the attention that he requires and he's a poor match for my husky's ... (Read More)lifestyle but I am determined to find him an appropriate home. He's come a long way since I first got him but he still has separation anxiety, cowers and sometimes urinates when being scolded, and occasionally goes to the bathroom in the house when not being watched but I think he's mostly out of that. He understands 'kennel' and will go lay down when told, but he cries when in his crate and thinks there is someone around to hear him. However most if not all of these things can be avoided if he's kept company. He lives to cuddle and wants nothing more than to be with you 24/7. He is an outrageously loving dog and will make someone a very good companion once properly trained. (Less)

Papillon Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Hi there, my name is Charlie. I am a 5 year old male Papillon mix who weighs 10.6 pounds. I was recently groomed and my hair is a bit shorter than it once was - it will grow back. %A0 I came into Puppy Pals Rescue as an owner surrender. A relative/friend of the family talked them into surrendering me so I could have a normal life. I lived in my crate for the first 5 years of my life - other than to go outside to potty. My prior family realized that they were doing me a favor by giving me up so I could have a 2nd chance for a new family. They were a family that just wasn't home enough to enjoy the companionship of a ... (Read More)dog, working long hours and then having events and children's functions on the weekend. They surrendered me so I would find happiness in a new home. My family brought me to Puppy Pals for assistance in finding me that home. %A0 Puppy Pals Rescue took me to the vet's to be neutered, updated on shots, fecal and heartworm tested (results negative) and micro-chipped. %A0 I am living a different life now. It's been a learning experience for me. I'm looking forward to a new family who I can learn to be a wonderful companion to. Ideally, someone that will be patient with me during my adjustment period and take me along with them in the car and on outings. %A0 Let me tell you a little about myself: I am polite with strangers, though often a bit standoffish until I feel comfortable. I am building a confident attitude toward people. I was at Petco last weekend and enjoyed seeing people and having them touch me. I can be overwhelmed by the quick moves of small children - so it might be best if any children were older. I am getting along fine with the other dogs in my foster home, but sometimes I get possessive of my treats, etc. I can be somewhat possessive and bossy so being the only dog might not be a bad thing. If you would have another dog we would have to meet each other before an actual adoption and it would have to be small like myself - no large dogs for me! %A0 I love to run out in the back yard for exercise. A fenced yard is a must for me. Some of us pups like to run after squirrels and birds that sit on the wood fence. %A0 I am looking forward to finding my new forever home and starting a new, more active life! Maybe it's with you? If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Charlie1618.html.%A0 Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html %A0(Email my foster home and let them know an application has been sent so they can make sure it arrives!) I just can't wait to find a forever home!%A0 Thanks!!! (Less)

(Less)

Prince Odin is an 18 month old Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix, who is a young and playful. Odin lived in a kennel his whole life before arriving in the Kingdom and he has not had an accident in the house yet. He sleeps in his crate, although he doesn't like to go in it, once you get him in there he rarely makes a noise. He loves to cuddle and will sit for a treat, but definitely still needs some manners. Odin loves his rope toy, and the ideal furever Kingdom would have another dog for him to play with, as he loves his foster siblings! As he is adjusting in his foster home, he has a growing curiosity for cats but has never hurt one yet. He ... (Read More)has not been tested with children, but, he is a calm and obedient prince, and we feel he would do well with them. His leash manners are very nice, and when he plays, he prances like a bunny! Odin loves people, belly rubs, enjoys his naps and is learning what it means to have a family that loves him. Odin has been neutered, is heartworm negative, current on his shots, including rabies and Bordetella. He has been started on flea and heartworm prevention, and has been microchipped also.     **Courtesy Post Patches was born in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. He was born to a stray Potcake mother (that's the term used to describe the mixed breed dogs that run loose on the islands) in January 2014 and taken to Potcake Place, a canine rescue, along with his litter mates. We adopted him from there as a 10-week old and he came with us to the U.S. Patches is extremely well trained and responds easily to both verbal and hand signals. He has been trained to the standards of the AKC canine good citizen exam; but was never assessed because he is leash reactive and struggles with moderate separation anxiety, making it difficult for ... (Read More)him to complete the supervised separation and encountering a friendly dog test elements. He is house broken and will seek out humans requesting to go out when it is necessary. Patches is an incredibly loyal and loving companion. He also has an innately anxious temperament, which has heightened since the birth of our son. Following both behavioral and medical interventions, it is the recommendation of our veterinarian that Patches be re-homed to a person or person with no children and possibly no other dogs. Patches currently lives peacefully with cats. He was neutered as a puppy and is fully up-to-date on all shots. He receives routine in-home preventative care for fleas and heart worms. (Less)
