Jack Russell Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is PPR's sweet Ariel. She is a 1 year old, 10 pound Terrier mix (possibly with some Brussels Griffin) from Kentucky. Ariel was found alongside a highway so we do not know much about her history. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. She has no medical conditions. She is being fostered in my home with my 12 year old, male and 2 year old, female dogs. She does well with both dogs. She was friends with them the moment she arrived. Ariel loves to run, to chase rabbits and to play with toys. She does not have any aggressive issues. She does not fight over toys, food or attention. Ariel is an escape artist! ... (Read More) She will need an effective and secure fence. She does not like to be crated. She would rather sleep and cuddle with you. We are working on getting her to accept being crated. Ariel is house trained so there is no problem with that. We are starting obedience training with learning to sit, but she is fearful and cowers at commands. She is just starting to walk with a lease so she does not walk well on lease. I do not know how she would do with cats or children. Since she is so docile and cowers, I think she would need children who would know how to handle a dog. Ariel is very sweet and loving. She would like to cuddle all day with you. She would be a good addition to your family! If you have any questions please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Ariel16104.html . Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received! ) Ariel just can't wait to find a forever home! CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

He is very jumpy and mouthy, for this reason we do not recommend kids under 12 yrs old for him. He loves toys and loves to play. 49 lbs. 1 year. Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Abused/Neglected

Tess is a very sweet Shepherd/sheltie mix. She has lived a quiet life with a bachelor,(90 year-old Vet WW II &Korea). Her owner is now physically unable to let her out for potty and activity. So, Tess' owner is moving into assisted living and Tess needs a home. She has had a bit of a lapse with her house training because of her neglect. She loves to go for walks (fearful of city sidewalks & cars), but loves nature, chasing rabbits, watching TV and being a good companion. She is 45 lbs., sheds like a shepherd and is good with going to the groomer and vet. Her teeth were cleaned last year, and is in good health, except for one recent, wacky ... (Read More)thyroid reading, and stiff hind quarters in the a.m. She gravitates toward men, and will love anyone who gives her an ear scratching. Like most elders, snacks and naps are a priority! Can anyone help out? She will never be a photo model. She looks like a small shepherd, with the standard face and tail. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hendricks is a black pit bull mix. He found us last January 2016. He had wandered into our garage on what would be one of the coldest days of the year and was attempting to eat a bird suet cake. He was cold, malnourished, unaltered, not micro-chipped, and scared. We took him to our family vet who told us that all in all he was in good health, but he couldn't be sure of his age due to the condition of his teeth - he said four, give or take two years. He treated him for fleas, and sent him home with us. We provided him with a warm home, food, shots, neutered and micro-chipped him at our expense. Hendricks is a wonderful dog. He is good ... (Read More)with both cats and dogs, and loves people. He can be a bit shy, and doesn't really 'socialize' with his pack, but is very friendly nonetheless. We would suggest a quiet home, as we believe that his previous owners may have yelled at him a lot. When there is a lot of noise in our home he simply disappears and hides. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00552Harley (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Harley. I'm about 6-8 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Guilford Lake area and I was brought in to the pound. I was microchipped, but my chip was registered to someone in Florida and despite the pound's best efforts, they weren't able to make contact with them so I am now looking for a new home. I am a very sweet and loving dog. I seem to be completely housebroken and I have never messed in my kennel since I arrived at the pound. I am a rather 'talkative' fellow and I definitely let you know when I am not happy. I have about the cutest little underbite you've ever seen and I am very ... (Read More)expressive. I get along well with other dogs. Aside from some 'old man lumps', I appear to be a fat, sassy, healthy boy. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00547Shorty McMaxter (male)

Basset Hound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Shorty. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 40 lbs. I was brought in to the pound, They said I was a stray and they had been calling me 'Max'... Well, later that day, it was dicovered that my owner had posted on a rehoming page trying to get rid of me... So yeah, the people who I thought loved me and cared about me brought me here to the pound and dumped me off without the courtesy of admitting I was their dog and giving the pound workers my history, so unfortunately, all the pound can tell you about me is what they have seen since I have been here at the pound. The day I first came in, I was afraid and boy did I ... (Read More)have a big attitude... Now that I have had time to settle in, I have been a very good boy. I will just need a family who will give me some time to adjust to them. I have been good with the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound. The posting my owner had made about me said I didn't like cats, so maybe a home without felines would be beneficcial for me. If you're looking for a cool looking, sweet little dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Hello! I am in need of some help. I have been trying to find a rescue for my 2 yr old neutered pit bull. Most of the rescues in Lorain county are full or do not accept his breed. I had some financial issues and had to move home with family, my parents have expressed that they love him but we are crowded in one house and I need to find him a home ASAP. I don't have the heart to just sell him to someone out of fear of him being used for the wrong reasons. Any help would be appreciated! Jennifer

Animal ID: 459-16Mickey (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

The name's Mickey, and I'm a real man's man...nothing mouse-like about me....well, other than my ears! My story is the same as so many other dogs here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center - my people weren't able to take care of me anymore so I landed here as a result. It's a real bummer, but I'm managing the best I can. If you can't tell, I'm a stocky fella, a real athletic stud type of guy. I'm a bit of a puller on a leash and I'm not too sure about all of this kennel business, but this stuff is all so new to me. If I were asked to describe my personality I would say I'm more of an 'all business' type and less of the ... (Read More)'snuggly' variety. Does that mean that I don't like a good scratch behind these ears? Absolutely not...but my previous people just weren't big on lovin' on me so I've got to learn what all of this affection stuff is all about! I'm not too sure about some other dogs...especially the ones who like to get all barky and what not, so if you are interested in me and have another pet, I'd really like to meet them first before I decide if they are cool or not. Anyway, that's me...Mickey...come check me out when you get a chance! Available for adoption at: Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center 1500 Newark Rd., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 740-453-0273 Please call ahead if you plan to visit. Open M-F 11-5 and Saturday 11-1.     Chipmunk is spunky, 40 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is around 3 years old. She spent 7 months at Cleveland Animal Control with her siblings on court hold and once that was up, her foster parents found a picture of her and decided to take her in to help her get use to living in a home. It has been amazing to watch her blossom and see her personality grow! She's got a wonderful smile, she loves to run around in the background, play with toys and be around her people. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-05-00006Saint (male)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Saint. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salem area and I was brought in to the pound. I am a bit timid at first with new people. I need a lot of training and socialization. I definitely seem to be more of a 'man's dog'. I mean, the girls here are nice enough and we all get along just fine, but I definitely like guys better. Us guys gotta stick together, ya know?... At this time, I would likely do best in a home without children. I appear to be housebroken or mostly housebroken. I get along well with the other dogs that I have been around here at the pound. If you're looking ... (Read More)for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Chow Chow Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chow Chow Golden Retriever mix. Plays too rough with other dogs and therefore alienates them and then they fight. Little dogs usually start it because of jealousy. Jumps on people and cannot break him of this bad habit. Likes treats and takes them gently, loves to have his belly rubbed. Bad at mouthing and sometimes hard to get a leash on. Where he lives with me, he does not get enough exercise and it is probably most of his problem. I am too old (74) to walk him because he is very strong and weighs about 75 pounds. Goes in his crate at night with very little urging or none at all. Does not go potty in his crate and is completely ... (Read More)housebroken. Does not like to ride in cars with bad shocks or suspension and salivates a lot; I think prefers Cadillac type suspension. Better in cold weather or very cold A/C. Hard to get in a van, but then again, there's my age factor. I love this dog in spite of all his bad habits and would like to find him a good home with a patient, knowledgeable dog lover's guiding hands. (Less)

Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to ... (Read More)increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

(Less)

Layla is a Pit/Boxer/Lab mix. She is a great dog with the family. She is so loving and just craves attention and to be loved. She does NOT want to share attention with another dog. She is house broken, never chews and is good with invisible fence. Layla can play catch and is very obedient. She is crate trained... by just using the word.. 'bedtime' or bye byes she will go right to her cage.' We only caged Layla because our other dog is a chewer.. and we did not want to separate them as they would cry for each other.     OSCAR is a Bassett hound/ Labrador mix. He has been living with his brother, Milenko, that I am also posting on here, at my family's home for about a year and a half. They have not been around other dogs other than their siblings, so I don't know how that goes. They have all of their first year vaccines, but we haven't been able to afford anything past that. Unfortunately, we got them just before we learned we were going to have a baby. we have found that it is just not financially possible for us to keep them anymore, as well as we haven't got the space now that our family is larger. I would be happy to see them both find a good home, whether it is together or apart. I think they would be happy either way as long as they can get the kind of love and attention they deserve. I have to find a home for them by January 20th, otherwise I have to take them to the SPCA. Please contact me if you can give a great home to either or both of these very sweet dogs! (Less)

Apollo is the most lovable and submissive dog I have known. He thinks he is a small dog and loves to lay on or, touch you at all times. He was rescued from a home that was neglecting him. His ribs and spine were visible when I picked him up. His nails are very overgrown and patches of fur gone from being in a cage so long.     Kirby is a dachshund/terrier mix of about 8 years old. He needs a strong leader in his life to not let him take over, other than that he is loving and sweet. He loves to run around outside and hunt, then snuggle under the covers with you at night. We feel he should have a fenced yard. He is trained to use a doggy door, and on the invisible fence. If you think Kirby might fit your household you can fill out an online application at www.rosesrescue.net.

Animal ID: PPR16-87Daisy (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is our Daisy - a one-year-old sweetheart who weighs 10-11 lbs. Daisy is a Chihuahua mix and we believe she is mixed with Miniature Pinscher. She is a beautiful brown and tan color. Daisy was a shelter dog down in Kentucky who was pulled by one of our members and fostered until we could arrange a transport. We don't know much of her past history. Daisy has been completely vetted - spayed, updated all her vaccinations, heartworm and fecal tested (results negative) and micro-chipped. We have observed that she is an active young dog who loves to jump. She loves to jump up and down while I'm preparing food on the counter. Daisy is ... (Read More)house, crate and leashed trained. She eats her food in her crate, as she can be food aggressive with the other dogs. When she sees that it's time to eat, she'll hop in her crate and wants the door closed. She thoroughly loves her crate. Daisy could be easily crated during a day if you work - however, as soon as you open the crate, you'd better have the outside door open! Daisy has the tendency to be a lady's dog and can be somewhat fearful/scared of men. She has been with us over two weeks and she's getting accustomed to us. She will need someone who will understand that she needs to be the one who approaches you first until she knows you and trusts you. When she first arrived, we would have to open the crate door and allow her to come out on her own terms. If we went to pull her out, she would seriously growl. However, she has come to trust us and these experiences are in the past. However, she might need time to build that relationship once again in her new home. Daisy loves to cuddle and give kisses. She loves attention. She loves to play and lounge around on the couch. She enjoys treats and she prefers to have them given to her once she gets in her crate. Daisy would probably do best with an older single woman who has experience with the Chihuahua breed. We would prefer her adopter to have a fenced-in yard. She'll be a wonderful companion! If you have any questions please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Daisy1687.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) Daisy just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)
