Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Zoey is a 7 month old puppy who came to us as an owner surrender. Sadly, her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. Zoey has a broken leg that is healing so she does limp a little bit. She's been an 'only child' so she gets along fine with other dogs but does try to keep her toys to herself. She would probably be better with older children too. She is energetic, happy, and playful! She loves being spoiled too!     Say hello to Indigo! This beautiful girl is a 6 month old Blue Great Dane/Pit bull mix. She LOVES people, but we would recommend children 8+ due to her playfulness. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Cindy & Rhonda are 2-4 year old Shepherd Mix sisters. They were found as strays and were particularly stressed out when separated in the pound. The girls are super sweet and loving, they need a little time to warm up at first - with those scars it's possible they weren't treated well in their past life. BUT - they are resilient and happy and already loving life and coming out of their shells at their foster home! Rhonda & Cindy would be better in a home with dogs their size or larger. One of them is being treated for Heartworm, and they'll both be spayed and all healthy to start their new life in their forever home. Adoption fee for the pair ... Saint Bernard Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Chloe and Nina!! These two sisters are hoping to find a forever home together! Chloe (left) is a Saint Bernard mix around 6-7 years old and Nina is a Shar-Pei mix around 4-5 years old. These girls are mature and have calm, loving demeanors. Both of them are very scared in the shelter environment, to the point where they shake frown emoticon But once we brought them together, it was like they forgot where they were and simply enjoyed each other's company. Chloe seems more dependent on Nina, whose confidence only came out when we brought her sister to her. This often is the case with bonded pairs, one follows the other! Both Nina and ... (Read More)Chloe know some commands. Though they are scared, they are as sweet as can be! Once they are in a home (hopefully together!), we think it won't take long for them to get comfortable smile emoticon Can you give these sisters a forever home? Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy and Mary Jane are brother and sister, a bonded pair of German Shepherd mixes. Mary Jane is 95 lbs and a very happy girl but can come on strong for her size as she is rambunctious and playful. Buddy is is the gentle giant at a whopping 140lbs. But he is just that, very relaxed and laid back, will play occasionally but prefers to hang out. They do well with other dogs if they can handle their size and playfulness. (Read More)please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Hello! My name is Banjo! I am a 3 year old, 19 pound male Yorkie Mix. I am a very happy and well adjusted fellow. I am laid back, but still playful and active. I get along with just about everyone, including other dogs. I am very well potty trained and if you have a doggy door I can take myself out without bothering you at all. I really like having a safely fenced yard because I really enjoy being outside. My foster mom says that will be a requirement for my new forever home to provide. I can bark if there is something to bark at, but I don't overdo it. I know basic commands like sit and down. My foster mom is teaching me a ... (Read More)couple of tricks. I think that is fun, and I like to learn. Maybe I will have one ready when you come to look at me. Words from Foster Mom: Banjo is a real sweetheart - very loving and easy to have around. He seems to travel well and likes to go along. We have no cats so we can't say if he gets along with cats, but believe he would. Banjo is cute, cute, cute! He has a very cute prancy gait that just endears you to him. He also has the cutest ears. He is a very special little guy who deserves a wonderful and loving environment.     Patty was found running around the side of the road in Franklin County dragging part of a zip lead. You could tell where she has chewed it (or it just broke). Her owners were never found so she is now with us and looking for a new home. She is a higher energy dog, VERY friendly and just wants to play and make you happy. She is house trained and crate trained. Age: 1 - 1.5 years old adoption fee: $200

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-23-00324Dusty (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dusty was adopted as a puppy but returned to us. He is a great dog, loves everyone, loves to snuggle, good with other dogs, cats and kids but likes to chase/play with the cats which they don't appreciate so probably best in a cat free home. He is house trained but jumps up a lot so we are suggesting older kids for fear he will knock a little kid over/down. He is a great dog with a lot of potential but is also very stubborn so needs a home that is experienced with dogs and won't let him get away with doing things he shouldn't. Firm voice is all he needs for correction. Age: 11 months old adoption fee: $200

(Less)

I happened to be there to pick up another dog and they showed him to me. He was going to be killed if someone didn't take him by 5pm that day. (Less)

(Less)

Meet Carlie! She's a pretty blue girl who came from a shelter. A few Good Samaritans witnessed her being thrown from a car and it took 2 hours for them to catch her, as she was so frightened. She stayed at the shelter in the event that someone were to claim her, when she wasn't claimed, she came to us. Wherever Carlie lived in her previous life, people were mean to her. She had lots of puppies and little to no socialization. New environments, loud noises frighten her. She's a little nervous with new people, but she really, really likes other dogs. Her tail wags very quickly when she's ready to play with her new dog friends. She really just ... (Read More)wants to be friends with every dog she meets. She wants them to play with her, but will simply walk away when they don't. She's also good with cats. Carlie would do best in a quiet home who will give her the time she needs to come out of her shell. She must go to a home with at least one other playful dog to teach her that life is good. She's probably around 4-5 years old (but acts younger since she was never allowed to be a puppy) and around 50-60 pounds. She's tall and lean.     Trixie is ready to find a new forever home! This sweet Aussie/Rottie mix is 4 - 5 years old. She was taken in by Critter Crusaders because her owner passed away. Needless to say, Trixie has stepped out of her comfort zone and is a little unsettled, not sure what is going on. She would thrive at a home with stability and consistency. She will make a wonderful companion as she ... (Read More)loves to be with people. Trixie will need a new forever home that lets her enjoy the outdoors and patiently gets her use to being indoors. She would make a great farm dog as long as she has a lot of interaction with people! Trixie is a very healthy dog. Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Josie. I'm about 1-2 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in Wellsville and I was picked up by the pound. I am a very sweet and loving girl. I do have a lot of energy and I would do best in a home with a family that is able to give me a lot of exercise. I can easily scale a 6' fence and be gone in a matter of seconds, so when I go outside to potty, I either need to be walked OR secured to a tie out so I am not able to wander off. I get along well with most other dogs. I do not do well with overbearing or dominant females, though. I do a pretty good job keeping my kennel clean and I don't pee or ... (Read More)poop when I am in the office, so there is a good chance that I have had some house training. **UPDATE** Josie has received a very special sponsorship! A special birthday gift from Ed & Mary to Cheryl! Happy Birthday, Cheryl. Josie is now sponsored for any approved rescue to pull. Please note that sponsorships are for approved rescue groups only and they do not apply to private adoptions or unapproved rescue groups. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER MAY 4, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $120 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY SPAY SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING, MICROCHIP AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. (Less)

(Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-07-00042Miley (female)

Maltese Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Miley is a 7 year old, female, Maltese/poodle mix. She is current on shots, has been spayed, and has tested negative for heartworms. Miley and her baby(already adopted), came into our rescue after they were surrendered to a local shelter by her former 'owner'. Poor Miley was extremely underweight, matted to the skin, cover in urine and feces, as well as several mammory tumors. All the tumors were removed during her spay surgery and were benign. Miley was scared, sad, and confused. Our guess is she was used a breeder and discarded when they no longer had use for her or finally noticed her tumors. This poor girl was in such bad condition, the ... (Read More)vet had to wait until surgery, while she was asleep, to cut her hair. She had tore skin and several irritated places from the fur being stuck to it. She spent 14 weeks at our vets office, and has now been released in good health, and is ready for a family to show her the love she desperately deserves. If interested, please contact us for an application. Our rescue does not go by a first come, first serve basis. We process the applications that come in, and choose the best home for each dog. However, we also do not hold dogs. They are ready to be adopted now. After a dog is adopted, we can then rescue another dog in need. Thank you for choosing a rescue dog. (Less)

You know what you're missing? Me in your life! Shooter is my name and I'm one cool dude. Just got neutered and vaccinated. Thankfully my heartworm test was negative. I was a little worried since I was a stray for quite a while. Everyone agrees that I am a German Shepherd mix (and really handsome) about 3 years old. I am a little timid at first, but warm up quickly. I like it when you go slow with me so I can learn to trust you. The only thing that ... (Read More)my foster mom didn't approve of was the one time that I showed food aggression with her dogs. She's working with me on that! I think that I would do well with me being the only dog in the house.I get along with other dogs, but I would hate for you to get mad at me if I get protective around food. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tucker is a 1 1/2 pit (mix) he is a very loving dog but not good with other animals unless you can work with him because he is very dominant. He has been around kids but I am unsure on how he would act around babies. Due to personal situations I feel like I can not give tucker the time and attention that he needs. He deserves to have a happy home instead of being alone for most of the day now. I hate to give him up but I am trying to do what is best for him. He is updated on all vaccinations. Also, I would prefer him to have a fenced in yard because of his energy and the fact that he is a runner he loves to run!

I have a 1 1/2 year old Cane Corso/Pit/Lab mix named Ace that needs a great home very soon. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old and we are moving and unfortunately we cannot take him with us. He's a big baby and loves to run and play and love on everyone.     Moose is about a year old. He was hit by a car in Lorain and wasn't claimed so we took him from a friend who worked at the vet. We got him in Feb. He has puppy tendancies. He likes to chase around our cats and get into the trash. He is house trained but still has accidents once in while.     Charlie is a one year old labradoodle that is looking for a GREAT HOME. Charlie is fully vetted including DHLPP, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines. He is heartworm tested negative and started on sentinal. He is also neutered and microchipped. Charlie is a WONDERFUL dog! He is housebroken and learning to be crate trained. He is WONDERFUL with other dogs! He is a little reactive with other dogs when they walk by but is really a sweet dog with all my dogs including two 9 week old puppies! He is a big boy and doesnt always know where his legs are LOL ... or his tail :) He looks like a lab with curly hair. He does shed ! contrary to what most ... (Read More)'BREEDERS ' of this MIX breed say .. they do shed I am training Charlie to walk nice on a leash, sit stay down - basic obedience. He is food motivated and easy to work with. His heeling is extraordinary!!!! I have shown and trained obedience dogs and he is a smart boy with a natural heel!!! He knows sit front .. he is a lovely lovely boy. Please remember this is a RESCUE DOG not a dog i bred for sale ! I don't know much of his history - nor did i have his hips x-rayed etc etc ! His price would obviously reflect a higher price~ what you are getting is what I honestly know about this dog and some great training started and housebreaking crate training etc. ALL this is NOT FREE! HE is not the price of a shelter dog because I have not had him in a shelter ! I am working with him and he is in my HOME ! You get what you pay for! Sorry but when people question the price I would like them to put into these rescues what I do and see if they would give them away! Food alone for this dog is a lot .. he eats four cups a day. He is started on heartworm prevention! all this adds up for me! I took him in because he was being dumped! I take him for car rides to get him use to being in a car without getting car sick .. the list goes on and on. This is NOT just a dog sitting in a shelter! (Less)

Animal ID: PPR16-32Zeus (male)

Maltese Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi humans! My name is Zeus. I was surrendered by a family in Anna, Ohio. I was living with another un-neutered male and un-spayed female and my owners complained that both of us guys marked too much. I am living in a foster home in Beavercreek with two spayed females and my marking behavior has decreased significantly. I was just neutered on 4/28/16, so the indoor marking should decrease or stop completely. I don't have an issue with wearing a belly band if marking remains a concern. Otherwise, I am completely house-trained. I am heartworm negative, vaccinated, and microchipped. I do have some teeth issues and just had a ... (Read More)dental at the vet where 18 teeth were extracted. I have only 8 teeth left, but the vet says those teeth are clean and strong and after my mouth heals, I should be able to chew on dental chews to help keep my remaining teeth. For now, I have to have soft food'| my favorite food is hamburger, but I also like cheese and ice cream. I am not destructive'| I don't chew on things like your furniture or your rugs. I am a little messy'| when I go outside, grass and leaves stick in my fur (this really annoys my foster dad, but my foster mom says a shorter hair cut should fix this). Because of my breed, I do not shed and am considered hypoallergenic. I have a lot of energy and am a happy guy. I dance in circles when I am really excited, like when it is time to go outside or go on a walk. I am good walking on a leash, but I do pull a little and I may snort if I get overexerted (most likely due to my short snout). I am not dog-reactive, but I can be a little dominant when meeting new dogs, so caution is recommended. I am very good in the car; I don't get car sick and I don't bark. I am not very interested in toys or playing with my foster sisters (Chihuahuas), but I love, love, love being outside. I would be happy laying in the yard all day watching what is going on outside. I am not too wild in the yard (I don't chase squirrels or birds), but be careful'| I am an escape artist. I am smaller than I look and can shimmy through a 4' opening (not to run away, but to explore or interact with people or dogs). So, a really good fenced area is important. I will bark at people walking by, but my foster mom thinks that my bark is not very loud or annoying. I know my name and I come when called most of the time. I am ready to find my forever home. I would love a family that would allow me to sleep in bed with them. Because of my marking and dominant behavior, it would be best that I not live with another male dog. I would be OK as an only dog. Because of my small size, it would be best that live only with children who are old enough to be gentle with dogs. My foster mom says that she is going to miss me bunches because I am so sweet, friendly, well-behaved, and absolutely adorable. If you have any questions please contact my foster mom at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Zeus1632.html.%A0 Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting me - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html %A0(Email my foster home and let them know an application has been sent so they can make sure it arrives!) Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... (Less)

She has some of the typical ACD behaviors, she is being taught not to be a counter surfer, and to sit, down, and walk on a leash. Jazzy LOVES the Jolly Ball/Herding Ball. She has been very good with most of the other dogs she has met, despite the fact that she has fully recovered from a dog attack. She was chained out for some period of time during her first year of life, and may have been attacked by other dogs or a coyote, leaving her with large gashes in her neck and many puncture wounds. Jazzy ... (Read More)doesn't like to be crated, but she does well in the crate once she is in and she is crate trained. She just needs lots of encouragement with high-motivational treats to get her to go into the crate. She will not let you put her into the crate without letting you know she is very unhappy about being forced. Jazzy does not like going to the vet and would need to have tranquilizers before going, or having her toenails clipped, and she lets you know she doesn't like being poked and prodded. Like most ACD's, she should not be forced to do things, she will do most things for people for treats and loving attention. She wants to please, and is a typical velcro ACD. She wants to be where you are. She is allowed on furniture at her foster home, so would need to be trained accordingly to the home who adopts her. She will need additional training, and would love to have a job to do. She needs to have access to plenty of toys to chew on and play with, and definitely needs a place where she can play with a herding ball in a fenced yard. Please consider Jazzy for your companion! She will be very loving, loyal, and playful companion! (Less)

Beagle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Buddy! Buddy is a quiet and gentle senior, about 9-10 years old, who had a rough time before he came to us. He was abused by children and therefore should go to a home with adults only, although older children may also be possible. Due to his history he is quite skittish and it takes some time for him to trust new people. He gets on great with other dogs though and can always be seen at Second Chance hanging out with his beagle mix friends Bagel, Lily, Sammi, Shane and Snoopy. He hasn't been tested with cats, but he is very laid-back most of the time, so we think it might be possible to train him to live with cats. Like some of the ... So, if you have another dog - or would like to adopt Buddy together with one of his Second Chance friends! - and can give him a warm loving home to live out the rest of his days, please get in touch! Beagle Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is our sweet Bagel beagle! (Well, beagle mixed with a few other breeds.) He is about 5 years old and was a feral dog who had been living rough for a very long time before he was rescued. He is still shy and a little skittish, so it takes him some time to warm up to new people, but once he trusts you, he is very sweet. He would probably find small children too overwhelming, so an adult only home or a home with older children would be preferable. He would do best in a home with another dog to give him some confidence - he gets on great with all the dogs at the shelter and enjoys being part of a pack even though he's quite happy pottering ... Now he needs that special someone who can help him become the truly happy and well loved dog he deserves to be. Could you be the one for Bagel? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-01-00461Bach (male)

Parson Russell Terrier Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This little man is Bach. He is a senior Parson/Jack Russell mix of about 10 years old and weighs about 20lbs. He can be a little ornery sometimes, so we'd recommend that he goes to a home without young children, but he loves to snuggle into the blankets and get petted by his people. He gets along with some dogs, but not with others, so if you already have a dog, a meet-and-greet is essential. We don't know how he is with cats, but he is pretty chilled out most of the time, so might be able to be trained to live with them. He has been suffering from skin allergies recently and is currently taking medication for it. He is also on a grain-free ... (Read More)diet and will need to continue with this in his new home. If you are able to meet his needs and have a warm comfy spot in your home and heart for a sweet senior, please consider Bach! (Less)
