Rescue Me ID: 18-04-21-00322Bella (female)

Poodle Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bella was owner surrendered at an emergency vet hospital after her previous owners took her in stating that she 'accidentally strangled herself.' They could not afford the emergency care she needed so MBR stepped in. The first 10 days were very touch and go but as time went on, she began to heal and gain strength. Today, Bella is a normal, happy lil girl. We were told she is about 2 years old. And now that she has recovered, our vet does not see any signs of long-term damage. We do not know Bella's history but can only guess that her first couple years were not the best. The right side of her butt and tail is missing hair from ... (Read More)some sort of trauma and does not appear that it will be growing back in. But regardless, she is simply adorable. Bella is crate trained and house trained. She does not mind being groomed. Since she does not shed, she will require grooming often and if you want to keep the eye staining to a minimum (which is common in her breeds), her eyes should be cleaned daily. She is not a barker. She is okay with other dogs and cats yet has a bit of 'small dog syndrome.' Since she is so small, she has a difficult time doing steps so depending on the set up of her new home, she may need to be carried at times. Bella is very sweet. She is smart, knows some basic commands and wants to please her human. And if you'll let her, she'd be happy to sleep cuddled right next to you in bed. She will be spayed at the end of April and ready for adoption soon after. Bella weighs between 7 and 8 pounds.     Remy is an energetic, loving pup that loves to snuggle. He is potty trained as well as crate trained and listens very well. He is picky with his dog friends but has grown up with other dogs in the house. Not sure how he is with children just because I don't have any of my own. He is up to date on his shots and has recently been neutered. He hasn't been given the attention he deserves and needs to find his forever home that will give him endless love and attention. He is a tad more dominant so maybe being the only animal in the house would be best. He is an amazing dog and deserves nothing but the best.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Chico has been a great dog for us for the past 8 years. Chico is a 70 lb black and tan hound mix that we rescued from the APL in 2010. He is submissive, a little fearful, fairly low energy (he loves to sleep in) but does have high energy at times. He is great on a leash and looking for a family with no young children. He would do well with older children or just adults. Chico gets along with most dogs and cats that he meets. We can no longer keep him because we have two toddlers now and Chico is food guarding when they get into or near his food when he is eating. He has only snarled at the kids and scared them. We feel overwhelmed with our ... (Read More)small kids and taking care of Chico too. If you are looking for a big cuddly lug, Chico is your man! (Less)

Hello. My name is Pebbles. I'm 1 years old (DOB 4/2/17) and I weigh about 47 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound because my owner is very ill and unable to care for me any longer. I am an absolutely wonderful dog. I am super sweet and loving with people. I get along great with other dogs and I even like cats! I am also housebroken and I do great inside. I am good in the car and I make an awesome shotgun rider as well. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for ... (Read More)adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     We are looking for a home for Austin as his herding nature and working breed is not compatible to our lives with children. He is an extremely smart and loving dog who has also received professional training. He is up to date on all shots and is great with other dogs as well as children. He is only protective of his territory and prefers to be introduced to strangers vs. discovering on his own. Our hopes are that he finds a home that allows him to use his herding nature and energy. Rescue Me ID: 18-04-19-00012Max (male)

Great Dane Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am an affectionate and playful boy initially adopted from a shelter at 4 months and lived with a family whose lifestyle just couldn't meet my needs which not only includes a fenced-in yard but more importantly, someone who enjoys hanging with me, giving me the kind of attention, exercise, playtime, training and mental stimulation that will nurture the very best in me. Below is a summary of an evaluation conducted* to assess general temperament and aptitude: Max is neutered and micro-chipped and appears to be enjoying good health. He showed no signs of fear or anxiety when removed from a familiar environment to an unknown one. He loves ... (Read More)people and was quick to trust the tester despite her being a stranger. He came when called and followed her around with minimal encouragement. Max showed no food or toy aggression during this evaluation, allowed himself to be touched on his face and body, and except for a moving and running vacuum cleaner, showed no fear or anxiety to a number of loud noises and strange objects. Max demonstrated a high level of intelligence which, along with his strong desire to please, should make training him a delight. When introduced to a non-aggressive, friendly and playful 15 month old Great Pyrenees, slightly larger in height and weight, Max was playful, showed no aggression but quickly became overstimulated, jumping up and nipping at the other dog's ears so it would be important to provide well-supervised opportunities to develop better manners with other dogs. To be successful, Max needs physical and mental exercise, at least 1 %BD%BD to 2 hours daily to keep him healthy. Be sure he had a rain jacket and an insulated coat when walking or playing outside in cold weather to keep his body warm. Do not omit walks but add more indoor activities during the winter months. Spice together time up, playing tug and fetch, mental stimulation games, multiple training sessions, walking and running. The more opportunities you give dogs to burn away their physical and mental excess energy, the less likely they will cause havoc at home. Formal positive reinforcement training consistently reinforced, though time consuming, will help him become a well-mannered, self-confident and beloved member of the family and in the process enrich the bond you share. Max is fun-loving and delightful and deserves a great home. Interested parties should consider if they have the space and time to cater his needs described above. If you cannot, then please do not adopt this dog or any pet for that matter. You also have to realize that training this mixed breed dog will take up plenty of your time, and money if you opt to take the professional route. As loving and attentive as these dogs can be, you have to train and socialize them from the start if you want to bring out their positive traits. Evaluation/recommendations completed by Gina Dias, senior trainer and owner of Gina's Doggie Den (professional canine services) in Parma,OH. Leave message at 440-842-3322 if interested in Max.     My name is Harley and I am a 10 month old, 19 pound Dachshund mix. I was a gift for children. However, not all the members in the home loved me. If I made a mistake I would get in big trouble. I also spent most of my time in a cage. I was very lonely until Sophia Grace rescued me. Sophia Grace found me a foster home filled with kids and other doxies to play with. They even have cats and guinea pigs. I just ignore the cats and the guinea pigs, they are pretty boring. One of my favorite things to do is run outside and chase my new friends. I also don't like to get in and out of a car. I'm working on that also. I love riding in a car, and I love going through the drive thru. Everyone is always happy to see me. Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Texas is an incredibly sweet dog. He gets along great with most people and animals. He loves to cuddle and is very docile most of the time. However he does get energetic and needs to be played with or walked often. His main problem is that he has severe separation anxiety, most likely from previous owners neglect. He is also not crate trained. He would need an owner who can be with him most of the time, perhaps someone who works from home. We have left him alone before and he usually does fine if it is only one hour, but after several hours he starts to destroy things.

Approximate 8 to 9 month old lab puppy, we found this pop in a field, someone had obviously dumped him out and left him. He is currently kenneled in our barn. He is in a large kennel but he is choosing to stay in his transport kennel for security reasons I think. He is very timid in grounds a little bit when we enter the barn but it is only out of fear from whatever has happened to him from his previous owner. When we let him out he warms up after a very short time he was OK with our grandchildren this weekend, after he's out in been around for a couple days he's very sweet he's just very timid. He has been to a vet and had his shots and ... (Read More)given a clean bill of health. We cannot keep him due to the amount of animals we already have. We are trying to prevent him going to the regular pound because we are fearful he will be put down immediately because number one he is black in color and number two because he's timid and growling when is caged, so we are afraid they were CMS Vero and put him down immediately. This is just a puppy he needs love he need somebody to take time to show him that people can be trusted. Unless you are a rescue or foster home we will be checking you out carefully to be certain he doesn't end up in a laboratory somewhere. Please somebody help him he does not deserve to die because his owners were abusive. My husband has agreed to hold him till Wednesday morning and then he will go to the regular pound and we all know what will happen there. If someone wants him we will hold him longer if we are given a pick up date and we will transport to a rescue and give a donation to help with his costs if someone will take him. He needs a champion are his days are numbered which breaks my heart (Less)

Hi there. My name is Cooper. I'm about 1-2 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray a while ago. A nice lady found me and tried to find my owner but nobody came forward. Although she liked me very much, her other dog did not feel the same way about me, so I came here to the pound so I can find a new family. I am a really sweet, good boy. I love people and other dogs. I am very clean and appear to be house broken. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or ... (Read More)credit/debit cards for adoption fees. Chihuahua Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Deaf

Cute little Tanner was born deaf but don't let that worry you because he is living life to the fullest. He is crate trained and mostly house trained. He was spoiled by his previous owner and wasn't really taught proper manners. So his foster home is working with him to become a perfect gentleman by not jumping on people or barking for attention. Since he cannot hear, the use of a training E-collar has helped him understand right from wrong. And he is doing good learning and understanding non-verbal hand commands as well. Tanner is sweet and has become a great cuddler. He is fine around other dogs and cats too. He would do best in a ... (Read More)home that will be consistent with him and continue his training. Just remember he is deaf, so we are asking that a potential adopter have a fenced in back yard and if you have children, that they be over 8 years old. We also do not recommend a condo, apartment or townhome where you share a wall with your neighbor. For a deaf dog, he has a pretty loud bark (but he doesn't know it). Tanner weighs 18 pounds and is 1 year old. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Hello! My name is Jack and I am dying to find a family who I can give unconditional love and support to. See, I'm not really sure what happened to my original family, I think that I may have been taken away from them or they just left me by myself somewhere or something. The person who has me now doesn't know much about me except that I am a really good dog with a whole lot of love to give. I think I might be pretty young like close to a year old, although my memory is a little foggy (you know dog years and your years are kind of confusing to me). If you know someone who might be able to give me a loving supportive family to call my own ... (Read More)please let me know! I'm really really excited to finally have a family that I can call my own. Thanks a lot, Jack (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-04-12-00379Moses (male)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Moses has had quite the life so far. He was rescued from a shelter by a gentleman who loved him so much. Moses was even an unofficial therapy dog back then! Sadly, this man passed away and Moses came to MBR. He was then adopted to a family who had him for a few years. Recently, we received a call that he was not doing well in the home, and they returned Moses to us. He was very afraid and nervous, and because of that, not very nice. BUT Moses has had a few weeks to decompress and is transforming back to a happy-go-lucky guy. We don't know what the stressors were in his most recent home, but Moses seems to do quite well in a mellow house. ... (Read More)He is currently living with one human and one other dog and is doing fantastic. Commotion isn't his thing; Moses doesn't like to see rough-and-tumble playing, so a house without children (or perhaps older children) is a must. Moses loves car rides (comfortably falls asleep every time without fail!), going for walks, chewing on his bone (he's not a fan of squeaky toys), and napping as close to his human as possible. If you are looking for a smaller dog who is house trained, crate trained, and will bond closely with you - Moses could be your guy! Moses is 5 years old. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Sweet Lucy! She is 7 months old and has the softest fur ever. She currently lives in a home with a male dog, 2 kids and 2 adults. Both neighbors have dogs and she loves them as well. I rescued her from an apartment with 4 cats and 2 teenagers and we are her 5th home so I am hoping to place her with her final home. She has been VERY RECEPTIVE to obedience classes and she even comes with 2 additional classes FREE. The classes would be located in North Ridgeville and yes I said FREE. Lucy is just under 40 lbs and she is dark brown with the white spots as you can see. She loves to get under the bed covers and lay right on your ... (Read More)legs to get warm, although she is kennel trained and sleeps in a kennel. We work so she is in the kennel for 8 hours and has never had an accident. She is potty trained although she has not quite figured out how to tell me she has to go. She walks wonderfully on lead, knows sit, stay, paw, place, down. She has crazy bursts of energy and she must release that energy. She loves to run and play chase with our dog and play tug of war with sticks. She would do well in a fenced yard, but it is not a deal breaker as our yard is not fenced. She has a fairly high prey drive and is easily distracted, so not sure if that is puppy issues or discipline issues. Her perfect match would be someone who has time to work with her.... I was amazed at how responsive she was to learning and how quickly she picked it up. He favorite things are ice cubes, cheese, fetch and sticks. She will play fetch until your arm falls off. She is current on all shots (have all vet records for you); will come with a blanket, kennel, raised bed, leash, collar and her favorite toys. I would love to share a video and more pictures of her if you are interested. (Less)

Hi there. My name is Macy. I'm about 1 1/2 years old and I weigh about 37 lbs. I was left here at the pound overnight so nobody knows who had owned me but I was in bad shape with a horrible prolapsed vagina. I was rushed to the vet and required emergency surgery. I am healing well and now all I need is a loving family. I am a very sweet, smart girl. I am very affectionate and I love people. I get along well with most other dogs. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit ... (Read More)cards for adoption fees. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wally would love a family with a fenced in back yard or a rural home with acreage (he is off leash trained), another dog he can play with, and humans that are often active with their furry kids. Wally is a great dog but misunderstood. He needs an owner who has experience with the Terrier/herding breed. Wally is house trained, good with kids and other dogs. However, in a group or pack of dogs, he has been known to try to herd them which sometimes does not go over too well. There are 3 cats in Wally's foster home, and he is doing great with them. You can even find them cuddling on occasion. Sometimes Wally is bored. He has been ... (Read More)bounced around from home to home unable to find his place in this world. He is fine for a few weeks in a house but then after the newness wears off and the family stops paying him as much attention as they did when they first brought him home, Wally gets bored and ends up doing what cattle dogs do; finding something to keep himself feeling important. As stated earlier, Wally is a great dog. We are requiring a homeowner with a fenced yard OR a rural home with lots of acres to run and a commitment to do something with him other than take a few walks. Another dog for Wally to play with would be great. And he needs something to do like hiking, biking, running or agility. This is not because he is a high energy dog. This is because his brain needs something to do, and he needs to feel he serves a purpose. And this is what will make him the happiest. Wally is about 3.5 years old. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Miss Macey was adopted a few years ago from MBR. She and her sister didn't always see eye to eye (no pun intended). Her family is moving across the country and felt the stress of the move, Macey and her fur sister not always getting along, their support group and trainer being here in Ohio, and the fact babies make Macey nervous (the family is moving to be closer to grandkids); it was best for Macey to find a new home where she is more compatible with the other fur family members or could possibly be an only dog. Macey's current foster family says 'she is perfect. She walks nice on a leash, even when passing other dogs. She is house ... (Read More)trained, crate trained and very loving!'     Tony is a terrific dog that wants nothing more than to snuggle on the couch while you watch a movie or under the covers with you at night while you sleep. He is completely housebroken and crate trained. Tony does well with other dogs as long as he doesn't have to share his home or humans with them.     I would like you to meet Kohl! He is a 1-year-old Chihuahua. He weighs 5 lbs and feels he is 50! Kohl is a great watch dog! His foster home has tried him out with everything possible (small children, older children, other young dogs, older dogs, and cats) and he gets along with all. Rescue Me ID: 18-04-02-00475Hope (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected

In early February 2018, a home renovator found a female dog that was neglected and near death at a house where he was working. The animal was friendly enough, but quite emaciated. She was under 30 lbs., and was small enough to be mistaken for an Italian greyhound. She would drink, but wouldn't take food, despite her condition. We got the call. The owner surrendered the dog to us, and we took it to our local emergency vet, who determined that it had swallowed some object that was blocking her digestive tract. We were told that we had about 48 hours before she would be too weak to tolerate the surgery that she required. It was an easy ... (Read More)decision. The dog had surgery to remove the blockage. And because it was convenient, she was spayed as well. A vet tech suggested that we name her 'Hope'. She had an excellent recovery, considering her weakened condition, and was discharged from the hospital in late February. Since then, she has gained weight (we don't know how much, but at least you can't count her ribs anymore). We discovered that she was not house-trained, but by using a crate and managing her daily schedule, we consider that we've solved THAT problem. Hope is a VERY affectionate dog. She does best late at night, before her bedtime, when she will alternate between licking your hands and face and curling up at your feet. She will also obey simple commands, such as 'sit' in the house, as well as 'stop' and 'cross' at street corners. But as her strength returned, we discovered that she has a great deal of energy, and is dominant to other dogs, especially smaller dogs. She will also try to jump on humans, a habit that we have been unable to break her of. In addition to this domination behavior, she pulls on the leash during her walks, and will not heel when other dogs are present. In spite of all these things, every now and again, she will walk with a pack of dogs without incident, showing her potential as a great pet. We also notice that she is a bit orally fixated, perhaps because she was not weaned properly. This is likely how she got into trouble to begin with. We are at the point now where Hope will ignore cloth and other non-food objects ALMOST of the time, but even after four weeks, we are not confident that we have resolved this very important issue. But let's be honest. Perfect dogs, however you define that, don't get neglected and abused. Hope is a wonderful dog, and wants to learn how to behave, but she came to us 'broken', and we've only done part of the job to fix her. She needs a strong, experienced leader to bring out her best qualities. We think that she will do best in a home where she's the only dog, with a family who are aware of her past, and will commit to spending the time and effort to finish what we've started. (Less)

Leto is adorable; both in looks and personality. Leto's amber eyes are gorgeous, and twinkle with smarts & personality, as well as nearly match the color of her coat. Leto's has the 'biggest' personality of her litter; she is fun, smart, sweet, ... (Read More)silly, playful, submissive, and very loving. She makes friends with everyone as well as the precious girl loves to cuddle up, rest her head on you and take a nap. It would be optimal if an adoptive family had another, more mature resident dog that could not only be a companion for Leto, but also a teacher that could help Hebe gain confidence as she matures. She is a good sized girl at 35 lbs, she has large paws so will ultimately be a larger dog when full grown. Due to her being a very young puppy, we will only adopt to a family with children over the age of 6 yrs old. Leto has been de-wormed, is current on vaccinations, leash trained, crate-trained and house-trained. (She is still too young to be spayed, as Veterinary research indicates that early spaying/neutering may have a causal link to later-in-life chronic conditions [ex. ACL issues, Cushings, etc.] because of the cut off of growth hormones). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition. American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Riggs is about a year and a half and a big sweetheart. He has a skin condition that makes him very itchy and uncomfortable and we are no longer able to afford to treat it. We have been to multiple vets and have tried creams, pills, diet changes, shampoos and many other suggested and prescribed treatments to no avail. Due to our work schedules, Riggs spends the majority of the day in his crate as well as sleeping in it overnight. He is a good dog; he just needs more training that we cannot afford. He requires a lot of attention and affection that our work schedules do not allow. He needs to be somewhere with a large enclosed space to run and ... (Read More)play. We want to make sure he goes to a new home where he will be loved and well treated. Riggs loves to cuddle and sit on laps. His favorite toys are ropes. He gets loud during games of tug-of-war, but it just means he's having fun. Riggs is a big baby despite his aggressive sounding growls. He is afraid of water, so he hates the rain and prefers to watch his friends swim from the safety of dry land. Riggs is very good at chewing and would rather lay down and chew than play fetch. Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet our little man named Potter. He is a 1 1/2 year old terrier mix who weighs 12 lbs. and is black in color with white markings. Potter is described as a Shih-Tzu and terrier mix on documents given to Puppy Pals. We're not sure of his breed mix, but we do know he's a sweetheart. Potter hasn't had a lot of good breaks prior to coming to Puppy Pals. We understand that he was dropped off at a vet's office (out-of-state) and no one picked him up. We don't know if he was lost and someone found him and took him to a vet or if his owner just didn't want him. We had him transported to Beavercreek, OH. If only they could see him now! A new dog has ... (Read More)blossomed. Potter came into Puppy Pals extremely fearful and timid of humans. When he first arrived, he stayed in his crate for a good two weeks without coming out (except to go outside to potty and eat when no one was looking). That was back in early February and he's now made a 180-degree turn, but still has a little ways to go. We feel it's time to start looking for his new home. Puppy Pals completed his vetting needs. He had been neutered prior to his arrival. He has now had all shots updated, been heartworm & fecal tested (both results negative) and been micro-chipped. What he needed most'| was TIME - time for us at Puppy Pals to make him feel at home and give him the reassurance that we were not there to harm him, but to bring him out of his shell and love him. Potter loves to go outside to play. He has the potty and crate training down and we are still working on walking on a leash. He's doing well with the other dogs and will come out to join us from his crate in the family room to rest on the rug near us when we are watching TV or crafting. He loves to eat with the others and is now starting to enjoy some toys. He still remains timid when new people come to his foster home. He'll retreat back to his crate, but comes back out when he feels it's safe. It will most likely take him time to readjust when he goes to his new home as well. He is a quick learner. He just needs someone with time and patience until he trusts you are not going to harm him. Due to this background, Puppy Pals suggests that he be adopted into a home that does not have any small children (or even older children who haven't been around fearful/timid dogs). A fenced-in yard is needed for Potter. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Puppy Pals feels that he would be a great 2nd dog for someone. We will be looking for a home that is quieter and has a calming environment. A lot of loud noise might stress him out. He will bark in his crate (we understand) when you are not home - so he would not work out in a condo or apartment situation. A stay-at-home or work-from-home family/person would be ideal for him. He enjoys having people around (which is a big change from where he started). We have learned that Potter at times gets car sick. He's quiet riding, but gets an upset stomach which can be controlled. If you have any questions, please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Potter1814.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. Siberian Husky Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Waffles is a VERY bright Husky/Blue Heeler mix. He is very vigilant, happy, playful with a tennis ball, plays fetch and can be talkative. He knows come, sit, stay, wait, and take. Take command is his cue to eat/take food after the wait command is given. Waffles goes to his 'room' crate with no complaints when we leave the house. We hired a trainer to work with Waffles to walk on a leash. The trainer was very nervous on arrival and he bit her. He will nip at guests until comfortable with them. Unfortunately, our city was involved after trainer sought medical attention and has required we insure Waffles. Our homeowners policy will not ... (Read More)cover Waffles due to his bite history. Rescue Me ID: 18-03-27-00244Stella (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Stella. I'm about 1-2 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was completely emaciated upon my arrival to the shelter. I need to gain about another 15 lbs. The night after I came in to pound, I gave birth to a single puppy but it wasn't alive. I was very sad after that. I went to the vet just to make sure there were no more babies in my frail, emaciated body but there weren't. Now that I have been here for several days, I am putting on weigh and I'm acting like a normal, happy dog. I get along with some, but not all other dogs, so you should bring any other pets to meet me. I am a very loving, cuddly dog with people. If ... (Read More)you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. Meet Bosa! I'm a 2-year-old Great Dane/Mastiff Mix (neutered). I love to run, jump, and play fetch. I need someone who can run or walk with me everyday, I love the outdoors. I really enjoy running at the dog park or running in the woods on hikes! I know how to sit on command, and walk well on a leash, but need a strong person to walk me. I'm potty trained, and while I'm crate trained, it is not my favorite spot. I'd rather be next to my humans or other dogs...I'm not sure about cats or other animals. My friend Morgan and I were seized by a pound deputy after a call was received in reference to us living in extremely deplorable, neglectful conditions. When we were found, I was emaciated with an extremely bloated 'pot belly'. I ended up needing an extremely expensive and very long, extensive surgery to remove foreign objects, including plastic, uncooked beans, duct tape and mulch-like wood chips from my GI tract. So basically, we were eating whatever we could find to survive. I am still recovering from my surgery but I am doing well overall. I'm putting on ... Rescue Me ID: 18-03-26-00171Anna (female)

Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Anna. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 35-40 lbs. I was brought in to the pound by someone who claimed to have found me as a stray. I was okay while he was here but when he left I turned very fearful. It has taken me weeks to finally come around to shelter staff and volunteers. Now that I have gotten time to get used to everyone, I am very happy and loving with the people here. I am still afraid of strangers and I act defensive initially. I just need someone who will be patient with me and give me time to come around to you rather than someone who corners and pressures me. It takes me a little while but once I ... (Read More)know you're not going to hurt me, I will start coming up to you and letting you pet me and once I get to know you, I turn into a very happy, loving, playful dog. I get along well with other dogs and I do like to play with other dogs. I am not a fan of other dogs coming near my food, even if I am not eating it, so if you have other pets, I will need fed separately. I have been doing great with keeping my kennel clean and I don't potty in the office either as long as I am let outside often enough. I will require a patient family, preferably without small children, that will be able to train and work with me on my socialization skills. If you think you will be a good family for me and have the time and patience fr me, please consider being my family! Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Tasha. I'm about 5-7 years old and I weigh about 95 lbs (I'm a little too chunky). I am a really wonderful dog looking for a new family. I would do best in a home with malamute or husky experience. I get along well with other dogs around my own size but I haven't been exposed to small animals so the pound isn't certain how I'd do with small pets. I would do best with a family that can give me lots of exercise and maybe a diet. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. Beagle Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Frankie has not had one single inquiry :( Frankie (the former Jimmy), was so skinny and depressed when we pulled him. The kind of dog who lived his entire life on a chain with little love and affection. Frankie has had a comprehensive blood panel and check up with our vet...he's anywhere from 8-12 years old, beagle mix (possibly boxer in there) and fairly active...not the lazy sleepyheads most seniors are. He LOVES everyone, dog friendly, curious about kitties. His blood panel showed he is in a light stage of heart worm so we are treating him slow kill which will follow with him should he get adopted. I am not a fan of injections for the ... (Read More)old timers. He should be negative within 6 months. That is his only health issue. He has also had a fecal. He is fully vaccinated, including rabies and is neutered. He is on nexguard as well as heartguard. If you'd like to welcome Frankie as your newest family member, apply for him at: gratefulheartssenordogrescue@gmail.com Indoor home only, home check and a vet ref apply to adopt from us...as well as all other pets must be fully vetted and on all preventatives. Frankie is in the Chillicothe Oh area so reasonable travel distance appreciated for a home check and initial meet/greet. Updated information from his foster: He is such a sweet and loving, happy dog, he deserves the very best home we can find-and they will be lucky to have him! The positives: 'ۢ Frankie is an active, vigorous guy, and can keep up with active families. His energy level does not suggest that of a typical senior dog. He is not big on napping during the day and wants to be busy, so I think his ideal home would be more active than mine, with more people for him to keep tabs on. 'ۢ He lives for his daily 1-hour walks, and really does need someone willing to get out with him at least once a day. (Two walks a day-morning and afternoon-would serve him even better.) 'ۢ He is very people-friendly and loves everyone he meets. He fawns on attention and being petted and talked to, so a home with time to do that would be a given. 'ۢ He seems actually indifferent to other dogs, and when approached by them, tends to ignore them. I think he would do fine in a home with another dog, especially a dog his age or older (his first adopters reported that their young dog pestered him). 'ۢ He has shown only mild interest in cats, so might do well with a house cat. 'ۢ He is very well-mannered in the house-respectful of my things, and house trained. 'ۢ He is crate-trained (but prefers not to be confined). I crate him when I leave the house (no more than 1 hour), but no longer crate him at night. He sleeps in a dog bed beside mine, and doesn't move all night. 'ۢ He is very quiet. He does not bark (or howl or bay) at visitors, passersby, cats, or dogs, or when in the yard. 'ۢ He knows some basic commands: sit, off, stay (in progress), come, and wait. He also knows: outside, walk, and din-din. 'ۢ He rides well in the car (once you convince him he has to stay in the back), and does reasonably well on a lead (see below). 'ۢ He has a wonderful appetite, and will happily eat any food you give him-even meds! Potential issues: 'ۢ He is a velcro dog, and follows me everywhere like a shadow. While some people would appreciate this, others would be annoyed by it. Someone looking for a constant companion would do well with him. He will stick like glue to his human (a good trait for a service dog)! (This may change over time as he gets more comfortable in his new home.) 'ۢ He needs to urinate frequently, which means lots of trips to the backyard. To manage this, he needs someone home during the day, and a fenced back yard. A doggie door would make things easier. (NOTE: He is urinating somewhat less than those first few weeks, so maybe over time, this will dissipate.) 'ۢ He is an incorrigible humper-it's really ingrained in him. It happens when he's excited, like during play, or when he's greeting someone-and he won't stop (it's almost as if he can't control it). I've worked hard on this, and he is much better with me now. If I hold up one finger and say 'Eh!' when he's about to start in, he does back off. I can also distract him with a toy to stop the behavior. Still, his new family will need to continue consistent training to solve this problem. I would not recommend a home with young children, solely based on this behavior. Miniature Pinscher Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

e pulled Merlin after being contacted by FCDS he was urgent for fear/bite issues. Merlin was an owner betrayal and as you can imagine, terrified after going from a home to the chaos of a shelter. Although the shelter had him listed at 11-12 years old, he is estimated to be between 5-7...probably closer to 7. Merlin needs to be handled carefully only when he's getting his teeth looked at. It's the only time he gets nervous. He does have some age appropriate tartar and a couple teeth that possibly may need extracted on down the road. They are not loose or infected and do not affect his eating habits-and this guy is very food and treat ... (Read More)motivated. He has two small lipomas on each side of his chest. They were aspirated and are not abnormal and merely fatty tumors. He is fully vaccinated, HW negative and neutered. He is cute as the devil, behaves like a perfect gentleman, does well with small to large dogs, listens well, house broken, obedience trained and loves car rides. Adoption applications can be sent to you emailing us at: gratefulheartsseniordogrescue@gmail.com Merlin has a small adoption fee. Merlin is located in the Chillicothe Ohio area; adopters for him need to be a reasonable driving distance from us for initial meet and greets and home checks. (Less)

'WOODROW' is an exceptionally handsome, 8 to 9 month old, 60 lb. male Labrador Retriever boy we rescued from a high kill pound. Woodrow is sweet, loving, silly & playful. He has youthful energy, and would be great for an athletic owner. Woodrow still needs to build confidence, so a home with a slightly older, established, equally kind resident dog would be optimal. Because of his youth, a home with older children also would be optimal. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

At first blush, Mandolin seems like a big, gentle softie. While he definitely enjoys cuddling with his human and is even relaxed enough to hang out in the City Dogs office, he has some secret spunk! Around other dogs, he truly feels comfortable and loosens up enough to wrestle and play. Sure, he might be a little shy at first but once he warms up, he is a blast. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process'|Here's a little about how things work: All CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees regarding behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very had to tell with certainty whether a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering or adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies, and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Talk about well-rounded! Spencer is the perfect mix of playful and snuggly. In the yard, he'll happily trot around on his own, exploring or playing with toys but he checks back with his person frequently, giving a reassuring tail wag or coming in for a butt scratch. Spencer is well-mannered enough to go to public events (and spends most of his time sitting in laps and gently greeting people).     'Hey! Hey, you! Do you wanna play?' is always the first question out of Lambert's mouth, whether he sees a person or another dog. Any time he's out, be it on walks or hikes or just a quick session in the play yard, he spends his time 'swimming' around and between your legs, begging for pets. (Less)

Her name is Amethyst because she's undoubtedly a gem. She may look a bit like a miniature hyena but there's nothing wild about this girl. In fact, she met a baby and bestowed the gentlest of licks on their face. Amethyst has a gentle mouth, taking treats delicately, and is learning to reliably sit for those treats. (She gets so excited for food!) Her warm, open sociability makes her a hit with people and she'll do the rounds to greet everyone. (Less)
