Mutt Rescue Information: Mutts are some of the most loveable of all the types of dogs one can adopt. What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.

Mutt Trivia: Mutts are also sometimes called mongrels, crossbreeds or Heinz 57 dogs. Genetic tests are now available to determine the ancestry of many mixed breed dogs. Mutts are often better at dog sports, such as agility trials or frisbee, than their purebred counterparts.

Meet Cam!! What a precious little guy he is at 1.5 years old. He came to us from an Ohio shelter and is just as sweet as can be.Cam does great with other dogs and even does well with the cats in his foster home. He does not like to be separated from his humans and will bark until he is with you again so we recommend that Cam not live in an apartment. I'm sure once he feels safe and secure in his forever home he will do much better. Cam is crate trained but he only sleeps in one at night. Animal ID: PPR17-30Cleo (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello... my name is Cleo! I am 5 years old and I weigh 7 lbs. I have a shiny slick coat of black which has some brown in it too. My foster mom calls it 'seal brown.' She also likes my sparkling brown eyes. She thinks I am a very beautiful little dog. I'm very feminine and dainty, but very healthy and strong for my size. I have a very cute face with ears that point straight up. I have been spayed, I have been micro chipped, and I have all my shots. I have also had heartworm tests and am on heartworm, flea and tick prevention. Words from my foster mom: Cleo is a darling little girl. She is loving and sweet. She is fairly ... (Read More)timid, but she warmed up to me quickly. It is taking a little more time for her to warm up to my husband. She seems to like him, but just doesn't trust enough that he can pick her up. I do think she will warm up to him in time. Cleo will meet our grandson near the end of May, so I will have a better idea of how she accepts children then. I think she will be fine. Cleo has gotten along well with all the dogs she has met here at PPR, but we don't have cats, so I'm not so sure how she is around cats. My neighbor has cats that roam outside of our fence, but she does not seem to notice them or bark at them. She is not a big barker. She is pretty quiet. She is a pleasure to have in the house. She does not seem to be interested in chewing on anything. She is crate trained and very well house trained. Cleo is not overly active, but she has a cute little prancy trot as she stays right with you around the house and the yard. She does love to be in the yard, so a fence would be very good for her. I think Cleo would be a wonderful companion for a single woman or an older couple, but I think it is possible she might fit into a family. Especially so, if all are patient and loving with her and gain her confidence. She is a very nice dog and deserves to have a loving forever home. If you have any questions please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Cleo1730.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) Cleo just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)

Animal ID: PPR17-29Bubbles (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet our sweet little Miss Bubbles. She is 5 months old and weighs approximately 5.5 lbs. She is black and tan in color. Her personality is like her name - she's very bubbly and happy go lucky. Bubbles was an owner surrender from Kentucky. One of our members got her and she was transported along with several others to Beavercreek, Ohio. Bubbles was taken to our vet's office and received shots, was spayed and was micro-chipped. She will be ready for adoption before the end of May. Bubbles would be an ideal family dog - she likes to run and play. We would prefer she be adopted to someone who has a fenced yard. She enjoys other ... (Read More)dogs and has taken to mothering several puppies we have at PPR. She likes to nap with them in their playpen. She enjoys chasing them around the family room until the puppies decide to run and hide under the couch or chair. Bubbles is still a puppy herself and is learning to walk on a leash and to potty outside. We are making progress, but she still is having a few accidents. Overall, she appears to have a very sweet temperament and enjoys humans. She gets along with the other dogs here, young and old. She is learning to sleep in a crate (which isn't one of her favorite things, but we're making progress). It is recommended (and would be very beneficial) for the adoptive family to take Bubbles to a puppy training class so she becomes a well-trained and obedient puppy. It's a good way to bond with your young pup too! If you have any questions please contact the foster home at the link found at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_Bubbles1729.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. Animal ID: SierraSierra (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi I'm Sierra! I am a 3 year old, Doxie, Parson Terrior Mix that weights about 27lbs. I used to live in a house with 11 other dogs, as I came from a hoarding case. I had been used as breeder dog. I've now been spayed and I'm so happy that I don't have to live that life anymore. I'm very shy, timid and scared. My foster mom brought me home and I was super anxious. I kind of darted away from them at first, because even though they looked nice I just didn't know if I could trust them. I slowly came around a little bit. But then the best thing ever happened. They introduced me one by one to the other dogs in the house! I was sooo excited. I ... (Read More)could tell the way that the dogs interacted with my new foster family that they were really good people and would take great care of me, till I find my forever home. My tail came up and I started wagging and just all around had more confidence. By the end of the night I was giving them kisses and curling up in their laps to get lots of belly rubs and nap. Now that I know they are ok, I feel so much better. Because of this I'd do really well in a household where I have a 4 legged companion. But I also will get very attached to you, and am happy to even just lay by your feet. But cuddling up with you on the couch, or in bed is the best. I don't really care about cats. They have one here too. I just ignore her, even though she did hiss at me. I am housetrained, and also have gone on a pee pad that my foster brother uses sometimes. I just love attention and can't wait to find my forever family. My foster mom says she'd keep me herself, since she's falling in love with me already! But there are other dogs she needs to help! And she tells me there is a wonderful home out there that is just waiting for me! Is it yours? If so I really can't wait to meet you!     Brody is a GREAT DOG! He is happy, not a barker, good with other dogs, loves hugs, good with kids, walks okay on a leash, is house trained and crate trained. His only 'bad habit' is getting excited and jumping up for a hug but we are working on that. Brody's mom got him at as a puppy then started a new job, working 12 hour days. So Brody was spending nearly 14 hours a day in a crate. That is NO LIFE for a dog!     Sky was at a Southern Ohio shelter. The volunteer who asked us to take him doesn't know how he got there . . . he was there with no mom or siblings. He was only 4 weeks old when we got him. Sky's birthday estimate is March 26, 2017. He is a great little puppy who gets along with everyone so far and is VERY tolerant of kids. He is good with the cats and LOVES to play with other dogs; really just LOVES other dogs overall. The pound has recently been granted custody of us all and we can now begin our well deserved search for loving families to join.     Hello. My name is Princess. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was seized by the pound in November 2016. My owner was also charged earlier in 2016 for another case involving me. The pound has recently been granted custody of us all and we can now begin our well deserved search for loving families to join. We have all lived neglectful, abusive lives. but we can now move on with our lives. I am just about the sweetest, most loving dog you could hope to meet. I can be a little shy at first with new people but once I know you, I am just a cuddly, kissy, wiggly sweetheart of a dog. My daughter Elsa and I share a kennel here at ... (Read More)the pound. American Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Chaos. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 70 lbs. I have been kind of a 'frequent flyer' here at the pound for just about my whole life. My most recent stay here at the pound was through absolutely no fault of my own. My owners were incarcerated' and there was nobody to take care of me so the pound had to come get me. I have been held here past my hold time and I have been vetted and I'm looking for a new family. I am a really happy, sweet and loving dog. I do still need some obedience training but for the most part I'm a great dog. I am a pretty strong boy so I will need a new owner that will be able to ... (Read More)handle me. I have a history of escaping my previous owners but that was mostly lack of training and lack of exercise. I get along well with most other dogs, especially female dogs. I can be a little more choosy about my male dog friends, though, so I should meet any new dog friends prior to adoption to help ensure it will work out. I LOVE humans of all sizes. I have been a house dog my whole life and I seem to be housebroken. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-24-00122Lana (female)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Malnourished,
 Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

Lana was rescued in El Paso, TX from a home with 52 other dogs of different species. She was approx. 3 years of age at the time we (my husband and I) adopted her in November 2016. She has no manners and refuses to listen to commands. My husband is now deployed overseas and I am unable to handle Lana, even with my parents help as I am living with them for the time being. I suffer from major depressive disorder as well as Crohn's disease. My own life is at risk because of the stress this dog causes me. I'm sure she will be a great dog to someone with time and love, but I just cannot offer that with my current state of mind deteriorating ... (Read More)every day. Some of her issues include: excessive hunger, coprophagia, house accidents, stealing of both food and non-food items to eat, stealing treats/toys from other dogs, refuses to come inside from outside, weight issues, massive bowel movements more than 4 times a day, digging, aggressive barking at anyone entering the home (even if she's already met them), aggressive barking at the children next door, nipping and biting of human fingers (expecting a treat?), does not know how to sit/stay/heel/etc. She also has a major jumping problem and has broken 2 baby gates (the third is on its way out) as well as the exterior of my dad's porch, that he built himself, and the wooden door in our kitchen. She has knocked over a porcelain pot belonging to my mother as she tried to climb over the baby gate into the kitchen. Lana also completely disregards the gate blocking the upstairs, she will either jump over it or push it push, where she then eats out of the trashcan in the bathroom and even stole medication from my mother. However, Lana is okay on a leash and will go into her crate with no struggle. She enjoys snuggling on the couch, though she was never allowed on the furniture (she refuses to listen). I want to find Lana a home where she will be trained and treated accordingly. I am beside myself and am constantly crying about how much of a failure I've been. Please help me to help her, she needs a loving home. (Less)

I am a very happy, sweet, loving and friendly little pittie girl looking for a family to love. I absolutely love people! I get along well with other dogs and I like to play. I don't like to share my food with other dogs, though, so I need to be separated while I am eating. I have always been a house dog and I appear to be housebroken. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. ... (Read More)The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     Meet Leo. Leo came to us from an Ohio animal shelter so scared. He was a little snippy but he has come around since being in his foster home. He was diagnosed with having an old ruptured disc in his back but after a few weeks of an anti-inflammatory he's doing great. Leo snapped at a small child in his previous home so we recommend no children or only adult children in the home. He's a great little dog and they don't come much cuter than this little guy. If you think this is the dog for you then please go to www.sophiasgracefoundation.org and fill out an application.

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-17-00259Clyde Cassius (male)

Treeing Walker Coonhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Clyde Cassius. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs (I'm very underweight). I was found as a stray in the Summitville area and I was brought in to the pound. I am a very sweet and loving boy. I love people and i have been good with the other dogs I have been around here at the pound. I was likely an outside dog my whole life so I will still need trained and housebroken. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL ... (Read More)dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. Charlie is a lovable, active, fun-loving 2 year old boxer/pitt mix. He has had a lot of homes in his life and is looking for a permanent one, very soon. He loves to snuggle, chase flies, run at full speed in enclosed areas, play with footballs, and just hang out with you. Charlie has demonstrated aggression towards certain other dogs who have been dominant to him - while he is fine with certain other dogs, I think what he needs most of all is a one-dog home with people who are as active as him. He is an amazing, happy, and loving pup who needs a forever home.

He's a big male. The other dogs kinda make me nervous. I live on a farm & I know to leave the chickens alone. I LOVE food!! Apply to adopt sweet Spice at adoptapitrescue.org under that application tab. Spice is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and heartworm tested. Her adoption fee is $175

Bloodhound Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Clyde (short for Clydesdale, do you see that paw?!), is a 6 month old purebred mutt. He has floppy ears like a hound, but a great big noggin and humongous paws. He's already close to 70 pounds and still has growing to do. His coloring is dark, but with brindle undertones. His start in life was a little rough, spending most of his first few months in a crate. He's in a home with other dogs right now, which amps up his energy. He's a lover, he's house trained and crate trained (with only an occasional accident). Clyde needs a home with another dog to play with and people who will have time to teach him puppy manners. He will make a wonderful ... Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy is an extremely friendly and well behaved dog. Unlike your typical Akita/German Shepherd, he is great with children! He is very loving. He is crated at night and even likes to lie in his crate sometimes during the day. You say, 'go to bed Buddy' and he goes... I've left him in my house all day and he doesn't destroy or chew or mess up anything. He sits patiently before you feed him, but he does love to eat. He weighs about 40-45 lbs. Very healthy, shiny coat. Again, he is so nice and makes an awesome watch dog. His bark is intimidating, though he doesn't bark a lot. Loves to run, so it would be great to have him adopted by ... I am watching him for my son and his wife, who just had a baby, and they are moving, so we need to find a good home for Buddy. I travel too often and just want him to find a great family or companion. He's awesome! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-15-00294Sasha (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Are you looking for a unique dog that will not only keep you on your toes but also keep you laughing? Well then Sasha is for you! Not only is she unique looking but her moves and abilities are almost cat-like. She is a young girl, probably no more than two years old, and so full of love and life. She is good with other dogs after proper introductions; cats are still up for debate. Sasha is kennel trained and 90% house trained. Her previous owner let her roam the neighborhood then abandoned her when he thought she was pregnant. Luckily a neighbor took pity on her and got her off the streets. Unfortunately the neighbor couldn't keep and ... (Read More)surrendered her to a shelter. When the shelter believed her to be pregnant, she was scheduled to be euthanized. Fate stepped in and Paw Patrol saved her beautiful soul. Needless to say, she was not pregnant. Sasha is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed. Sasha is very active and agile so needs a fenced yard with lots of toys and room to run and play. She hasn't been tested with kids but her foster family thinks she will be ok with older kids that will play with her. She has learned so many manners since coming to us. Sasha sits and stays on command, waits to eat until told to do so, and goes to her kennel when told it is time for bed or her foster family needs to go out. As you can see, she loves to cuddle with her foster brother or chill out in the recliner. Also, after a long day of puppy playing, Sasha loves to cuddle with her favorite humans. Of all the things she can do, her cuddles are the best thing of all. Sasha's adoption fee is $175.All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted. Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

This sweet soul has not had an easy life. She lived outdoors most of her life and was then abandoned when her owners moved. We are partnering up with Ruff Transport to find this girl an amazing forever home. Ruff Transport is paying for her heartworm treatment (because sadly she is heartworm positive) and her spay. We will just be helping network and possibly foster her after her treatment is done. She is a smaller Pit Bull but weighs in at a surprising 49lbs. She is so sweet. Has been around a small child and a teenager with her original owners. She has walked by children on a leash and been nothing but tail wags. She has not been anything ... (Read More)but friendly to everyone. The vets office staff loved her. Freedom lets them do all the procedures without an issue. She does well with other dogs. Honestly, she is the poster child for Pitties. She walks very well on a leash and next to other dogs. She is housebroken and will not go potty on cement or in a crate. She is getting more confident now, but used to drink every drop out of water bowls and not want to be outside alone. She is a very calm dog. She just wants to sit by you and sleep. She has free access in the house now (supervised of course to be sure she is calm due to heart worm treatment). She does not get over excited when loose so it has worked great. Very sweet personality and very dog friendly. Greets everything she meets with a wagging tail. Great with all people young and old.Freedom was cat tested and did very well with the cats laying around, but did get excited when one darted away. Has never had an accident in the house. Freedom walks great on a leash, rides well in the car. She wants to be with people. She loves toys. Her foster says she has medium energy level. She's not big on being in a crate and because of this she can be a bit of an escape artist. her foster says she does well being left out so far. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Mocha. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound and I am now looking for a new home. I am a very super duper sweet and loving girl. I smile and give lots of kisses. I absolutely love people and I get along well with most other dogs. I was a house dog and I appear to be housebroken. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo ... (Read More)distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. Animal ID: PPR17-21Daisy May (female)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Daisy May is a six-year-old Chihuahua mix that weighs seven pounds. She came to Puppy Pals Rescue as an owner surrender. Daisy May's previous owners informed us that she had been hit by a car about a year ago and at that time lost use of her left front leg. She is a very strong lady and overcame this handicap on her own. Little Daisy May does well using only three legs to walk, jump, and run. She can even climb stairs without difficulty. Her left front leg is contractured and bent. The Vet checked the damaged leg and said circulation was good and thought she had possible nerve damage which could not be repaired. It does seem that she ... (Read More)will use the bent leg for balance at times. Daisy May just loves to play with stuffed toys and sleeps next to one most of the time. She currently lives with two other Chihuahuas and does well with them. She does tend to want to be the boss. She lived with Peanut who is another Puppy Pals Rescue dog that was surrendered with her also. She will jump up on peoples' laps for petting. She is very social. She loves to get affection. She also runs and plays with the other dogs outside. Daisy May sleeps in the crate at night without any problems. She has not soiled her crate. She is 95% house broken and has an accident rarely. We are currently working on getting that to 100%. She is learning the sit command and does that about 70 % of the time. She has been spayed, micro chipped, had all her shots, fecal and heartworm tested and both were negative, and up to date on her flea and tick protection. During the physical examination she was found to have a heart murmur but has no symptoms and needs no medication to treat it at this time. Daisy May has not had an easy life for sure. Despite this she remains a sweet and affectionate lady. I am looking for a great forever home for this little lady. A single person or a retired person or family would be a great home for her. She has not been around children here so I don't know how she would be. She does not like cats. A fenced yard is preferred. If you can give her the great forever home she deserves, please fill out an adoption application for a meet and greet. If you have any questions please contact the foster home at the link found at http://www.puppypalsrescue.com/Dogs_DaisyMay1721.html. Fill out an application if you are interested in adopting this pup - you can find those at http://puppypalsrescue.com/Applications.html. (Email the foster home and let them know you applied so they can be sure the application is received!) Daisy May just can't wait to find a forever home! Thanks!!! (Less)

Hiya, my name is Dawn! I am looking for a forever home with someone that can look past my scars and see how beautiful I am inside. I am a 2 year old female, house trained, and around 40 lbs. I have overheard being described as a pocket pittie! My foster says I am a very sweet girl. I have playful spurts, but am mostly calm and laid back.     This is Bella, a Jack Russell/Pitbull mix I received from a friend. I got her with the intention of eventually being in a home with a yard, but those plans fell through, and this puppy with lots and lots of energy has no place to run and play and it's not fair if I keep her. She is very well house trained, I don't even put her in her cage throughout the day, she is extremely smart and knows lots of commands, and is able to learn them quickly. A few of Bella's downfalls is that she is ... We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)
