Rescue Me ID: 18-03-25-00255Harlie (female)

Border Collie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Harlie, and her sister, Davidson, came to rescue as surrenders due to unfortunate circumstances. They are almost 4 years old and were purchased from a pet store as puppies and labeled as Queensland Border Collies. They are likely a mix of sorts and Davidson is a little larger than her sister Harlie. These ladies are absolutely gorgeous and complete sweethearts. They adore children, loves to play ball, go for car rides, and adore attention. We are working on socializing with them. At this time Harlie is reliant on Davidson and Davidson gets protective of Harlie around other dogs and is also the dominant of the pair. We are working on ... (Read More)individual time to help negate the effects of littermate syndrome and they are doing great with it! They were also likely not socialized well with other dogs as puppies. Apart they meet other dogs well and are just timid, but together they get protective of each other. They are to the point they can do well apart but they can also be adopted together with a guardian that understands littermate syndrome and will continue to work on their development apart as well as together (ie, separate leashed walks, separate training times, etc to help them develop independent personalities). They love children and like to play fetch. Both ladies are a quite bit overweight as well probably weighing over 60 lbs so we will work to get them healthy. They also tested well with cats after getting to know what they were :) These gorgeous girls are just sweethearts deserving long term homes! Please share their story so hopefully that lifelong home can be found! If interested in meeting and potentially adopting, please READ THE ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLETE THE ADOPTION APPLICATION LOCATED AT forbellessake.org. Breeds cannot be guaranteed. Fenced yard is required if a yard is present. Adoption fee is $175 and all residents are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and treated for any other known medical needs. (Less)

Chihuahua Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Macy is a very loving dog once she gets to know you and that does not take very long. She does bark when someone comes to the door. I have had her for 4 1/2 years and I never thought I would be giving her up, but things in life have changed and I am not able to give her the attention she needs. I had her vaccinated at one point but have not updated. I do have an appointment for her to get fixed but the soonest I could get her in is July and I am hoping that someone will want her before then. She is good with older kids not toddlers. She is good with most dogs but gets scared of bigger dogs, she tries to stay away from them.

Hello, in the picture is a young dog my parents found abandoned by a state park they live in. They have rescued her, however problems have come up with her stay. While she is generally friendly towards people, she is extremely aggressive towards other dogs. We have an older Shetland Sheepdog, Merlin, that has been seriously attacked by her and because of this, we try to keep them separate. Unfortunately my parents live in a very small space and the separation has become difficult. Last week, Bella got out and attacked Merlin again. When my sister ran out to break the chokehold Bella had on him, Bella ended up biting my sister. While the ... (Read More)skin hasn't been broken, the traumatic event has led my father to decide to have her euthanized. I don't want to see her killed, but I know she can't stay with us any longer. I'm looking for someone who is experienced in handling difficult dogs. She cannot be around other dogs, but besides the bite, she is fairly friendly towards people. She has a lot of energy and requires a lot of space. My parents and Bella live in Devil's Lake, ND, however I can pay for anything necessary to get her to a safe place. If someone can help, please contact my father. (Less)

Rally's last chance. I am not going to sugar coat Rally. He needs a home and he is on the list for euth. In fact, every rescue we have contacted recommends putting him down. Anymore, rescues want quick adoptions and few will rehabilitate for behavior needs. Here is his story. He was in the pound as a wee pup. Pulled into rescue and adopted to a gentleman at 10 weeks old. 4 years later, he was returned to rescue due to irresponsible ownership. Then he stayed in rescue for nearly a year. Finally adopted...for 2 days. Returned because he hadn't pooped yet. Pretty common actually but alas, it was his reason for a 3rd surrender. Finally, ... (Read More)adopted again, and returned. 4 strikes. Extensive rehab went into Rally. He is far from a bad dog. He's not even near the worst we've had in rescue. He is insecure. He would be best in a home with no other dogs, and older children or no children. We have 4 young children and no issues but I just prefer this chance to be the best fit for him as it's his last chance. He really only seems to tolerate puppies. Seems to ignore cats. Does NOT like to be corrected so an owner needs to establish alpha and cannot, absolutely cannot buy into the 'furbaby' humanizing of pets craze. He is a dog, he understands dog, and he needs a secure environment with an owner who understands dog. What behaviors does he display? He is cuddly and needy. He is fine when left alone and does good in his crate so not separation anxiety, he just has no confidence and likes to cuddle. He does not like any animal in his face so introductions with other dogs are difficult. If they ignore him, he will ignore them but he LOVES to play with puppies. Rally likes to play with toys and will throw them for himself. He does good on a leash but does not like to be left outside in a yard by himself and will get out of a 4 foot fence to come to the door. Rally does not like to be corrected. He will growl and show his teeth if he is allowed to. Even a simple command to get off the couch and he feels insecure. I don't know what happened to him in those 4 first years but he is insecure and feels threatened when corrected. He cannot be allowed to get away with such behavior. Once he knows that, he is good. Rally thrives in an environment where he knows what the rules are, knows he is safe, and knows his owners aren't anxious. A calm, assertive owner. I wish I could rehab him further but am overseas and frankly, he's unadoptable from rescue at this point. Who wants a 4 time returnee? No one. All he looks like is a risk even though he isn't. He doesn't deserve to sit in a kennel for 8 months as that isn't mentally healthy either. If you are looking for a good dog, are a calm and assertive owner with patience who will give him a few days to bond, who will exercise him and help him grow, you'll have a best friend for life and we'd love to hear from you. Thank you for reading. Please contact forbellessakerescue@gmail.com or visit forbellessake.org for the adoption application. ADOPTION FEE WAIVED TO APPROVED HOME (Less)

Hi! My name is Rally and I'm not perfect. Guess what? Either are you! And that makes us perfect for each other. Let me tell how. Single female? Guess what ladies. I am the only man you will ever need. I am 4 years old, which in dog years means I am mature enough to know good taste in shoes and not to mess with yours because ladies, they make your legs look killer. I admit, I am fairly average looking. This is a good thing though because I would never want to outshine you. You have a natural beauty that I am only here to compliment. I am a great protector. I love long walks on the beach, city streets, window shopping, in the park, whatever ... (Read More)you prefer. I am happy as long as I am with you. If you're active, I would love to be your jogging partner too, but it's ok if not because I am a great walker. If you do decide to get another man in your life (not sure why you would when you have me) but if you do, I will accept him too! And we can watch football games together and then later binge on Netflix with you. If the man is dumb enough to leave you, I am a really good lounger and ice cream eater too! I'll always think you're pretty and I'll be super excited to see you every time you walk through the door. Single male? Let's hang out. Hey bro, how 'bout those Giants? Too soon'|? I am a great couch potato but also pretty fun to hang out with and get all nature like. Hiking, jogging, walking, picking up ladies/fellas; all that stuff. I don't really care if your place is a bachelor pad. I am not one to judge on your den's tidiness. And if you do have a special someone come to visit, they'll be paying more attention to my cuteness then your trashed place anyway so it's perfect! I am the perfect third wheel. Couple? Well, to me that means twice the affection and attention. And I'll steal it all. Seriously, look at this face. I have mastered the puppy eyes. Especially when I am told 'no'. We can all go on walks together! In all honestly though, not that the rest wasn't, I have been stuck in rescue for a really long time. I am considered their 'longest resident'. I was adopted as a baby and lived in that home for 4 yrs. Then I found myself back at rescue when they moved and didn't take me with. It was pretty traumatizing. Everything I'd ever known was gone. I really like puppies and they are my favorite to play with. I am not sure why but I am 'dog selective' they say. My rescue mom says something may have happened in my past to make me leery of other adult dogs. I can neither confirm nor deny because, well shit, I can't talk. But puppies man, puppies are so innocent. We can play all day. I also think cats suck but I'm not mean. I'd just rather pretend they don't exist. I am a little shy when I meet someone, but I'm pretty afraid they are going to abandon me again. Once I get to know you, I am your best, and I mean, BEST friend. So, I told you. I am not perfect. But I do deserve a home, I do deserve a family, I do deserve someone like you. If you think we could be best friends, I'd love it if you gave me a chance. I see all of these other, let's be honest, less attractive dogs come and go, and here I sit with no one even asking to meet me. It's looking like another year homeless for me. From my rescue mom: If interested in meeting Rally, and we hope you are, please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption can be finalized at that time as well. Adoption fee is $175 and Rally has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, microchipped, and treated for any other known medical needs. Rally is guessed to be a Rottweiler/Heeler mix and about 45-50 lbs. He is 4 years old and he thinks he's plain and boring but we think he's quite handsome. We have him listed as dog friendly but as discussed, he is very dog selective. For instance, there was a puppy in rescue who was VERY dog aggressive and Rally adored her. They played and played. He is currently exercised with 6 other dogs and usually there are no issues but sometimes he just doesn't want to be social. I do think it is an insecurity thing and with the proper handler, he wouldn't have issues but for the average family I would suggest a puppy to grow up with him or no other dogs. He is shy with new people but I promise, once he feels safe, his silly self comes out and he is just a fun guy. If not interested in adopting, please just share his story. He deserves a chance. This boy really does. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-12-04-00358Journey (female)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Not sure what she is other than CUTE! This is Journey! Journey was found astray and heavily pregnant. She delivered and raised her beautiful puppies at rescue and now is ready for her forever home. Her pups have all found their home and she has been stuck in rescue with little adoption interest for OVER TWO HUNDRED DAYS (200)!! WHY? She isn't a very large dog and only weighs around 40 lbs and has the cutest scruffy face. When Journey came to rescue she was showing signs of dog intolerance being pregnant, then with puppies to protect, etc. In the last 200 days we have been working with her with leashed walks alongside other dogs, etc ... (Read More)and she now exercises in the playpen with others and LOVES TO PLAY!! Please feel free to visit the rescue's facebook page for videos! She is making huge leaps with learning how to act around other dogs (we don't think she was around them much) and with an experienced guardian to continue her training and help her learn proper behaviors, she will continue to improve. She loves people, loves attention, and is desperate for a home. She would also do great as an only pet. She does well on leashed walks as well with the other dogs we have walked with and in the playpen with other large dogs. We have no small dogs at rescue at this time to test with so that is why we say medium to large dogs as companions. If looking for a smaller, wirey, lovable pup to be your companion, Journey is your gal. If interested in meeting and potentially adopting, please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Adoption fee is $175. All residents are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and treated for any other known medical needs. Breeds cannot be guaranteed. Fence is required if a yard is present. We pray her journey to having a home is over soon!! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Mutt in North Dakota
Mutt Dogs can make good pets in North Dakota if they match your IifestyIe. Mutts are some of the most loveable of all the types of dogs one can adopt. What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.
