Rescue Me ID: 18-01-15-00436Jak (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Jak is a 70-pound lab mix who is very friendly and gets excited about meeting new people. At 8 years-old, Jak frequently gets mistaken for a much younger dog, due to his playful and energetic nature. He loves to spend time outside and likes being taken along on hikes and runs. Jak usually gets along well with other similarly sized dogs and has lived with multiple dogs in the past. He is neutered and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations - we can provide all the necessary documentation. He has never bitten or acted aggressively towards any human or dog (except for the occasional growl at a dog park). We have had Jak for over 7 years and ... (Read More)have come to the difficult decision that we are no longer able to provide him with the time and attention he deserves. Jak becomes anxious when left home alone, so he would do best in a home where someone is able to spend a lot of time with him. His ideal home would have enough space for a dog of his size and, preferably, a fenced-in yard. Please contact if you think you may be able to provide a loving home for Jak. (Less)

Animal ID: 7623Evanescence (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Meet Evanescence! She is a 2 year old shepherd mix with a beautiful brindle coat and about 45lbs. She has only been with OPH a few days and has been great with the dogs and people she's met -- including at a busy adoption event. She's been outgoing, curious, and active. She also knows how to lounge about. She's a super sweet girl who is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. She is getting settled in, working on her new bone, and getting to know her foster family. So far we're off to a good start: she did great in the car, has done her business outdoors, will sit for a treat, and even tolerates the crate. We're so looking forward to getting ... (Read More)to know her more. Aren't you? Apply to adopt today! Evanescence tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to the rescue. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito producing a positive test in six months. OPH will treat her and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from OPH's heartworm coordinator. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Mutt in D.C.
Mutt Dogs can make good pets in D.C. if they match your IifestyIe. Mutts are some of the most loveable of all the types of dogs one can adopt. What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.
