Mutt Rescue Information: Mutts are some of the most loveable of all the types of dogs one can adopt. What distinguishes a mutt is that they are not born from any single breed, but rather, are a mix of two or more breeds. While a mutt might not be able to be shown at an AKC show, they tend to be healthier, more secure and live longer than most purebred dogs.

Mutt Trivia: Mutts are also sometimes called mongrels, crossbreeds or Heinz 57 dogs. Genetic tests are now available to determine the ancestry of many mixed breed dogs. Studies have shown that mutts typically live about 2 years longer than purebred dogs. Mutts are often better at dog sports, such as agility trials or frisbee, than their purebred counterparts. The famous movie dog Benji was a mutt — a mixed breed terrier.
